same type of paint stripper that i use? works exactly the same way, the valve cover that i show had many layers of paint and a crappy polishing attempt under all the paint along with a think primer coat, so the home depot stuff would do the same thing

Does this wrinkle paint chip easy when it's hot?

I've painted my valve cover ford blue once, and I could scrape it off w/ my fingernail after my engine was running for a while.

I really like that red one, and I want to do this.. but I want it to be just like OEM quality.

Fill me in dude!

so i guess your valve cover came in some other color than black or red. its the exact same finish as the original valve cover, so i dont see how its any uglier than a stock valve cover

No I have a black valve cover, but I think it looks way better they way it comes stock, than shaving everything off of it and painting it again.

I am confused. Did you use something that just creates wrinkles and you spray it over top of the color of your choice? I saw in that one picture you have this really thick glossy black coat of paint...but the next picture shows a grayish wrinkle, then the next picture is a black wrinkle. Can you explain what you did there?

It takes a while for the paint to wrinkle.

i like yours, you just used less coats of paint right, i just wanted to give mine a little more texture, also my camera shows detail very well.
but you can see where you sanded your lettering, it faded your paint a little around the letters

i'm not a fan of the shaved look. takes away the blingage (DOHC VTEC).

about the paint. if i were to do a wrinkle black and then paint a blue over it after.
the wrinkle look would still be there but blue?

i have just tryed to paint over the black with red and (because i ran out of red wrinkle paint) and it didnt turn out to well, but then i tryed with a gunmetal and it cameout ok, just use light mists and alot of passes should do a nice blue with a wrinkle. good luck and post some pics.

i just polished my valve cover. i used "klean paint stripper" i got it from sears and was VERY impressed. it took the oem wrinkle paint in less then 5 minutes, all the way down to bare metal.

Ok. BIG question.

Where do I get the wrinkle paint?

My local Lowes didn't have it (used to be home depot), neither did a local hardware store in my town. That pisses me off.
