i ACTUALLY tried this today and it didnt work.
it just turned the motor over. in this case, u stop the motor from turning over, use a gear wrench and a long *** mother ******* breaker bar.

when you pull the gun, the PSI drops... i set my gun so that when the PSI drops it's at 90PSI but while it's not pulled the gauge shows around 100PSI+.... this works for me with the cheap compressor i have...
if i set it at 90PSI without pulling the gun it drops around 75-80PSI and it didn't work on my axle nut.... but when I set it to 90PSI when i pull on the impact, it removes the axle nut no problem... i'm sure it will work for the pulley as well...

Re: How to -Remove your crank pully- (LSTEG96)
another way to get the crank pulley off is to heat it up with torch for 45 seconds and then open a 5 gallon propane botle on it, when it turns from hot to cold it shrinks thus being finger tight and screws out with your hand......of course wearing gloves and being an idiot for doing it this way, but hey it works

I'm a bit confused as to how you would keep the motor from turning while using an air gun or nothing even necessary? Sorry for such a noob question. TIA

Re: How to -Remove your crank pully- (jus2sho)
Just did my Timing belt and AC/PS/Alt belts this weekend
26" Snap-on 1/2" Ratchet = No match for Crank Pulley. My impact is rated at 850lb feet but my stupid compressor hose blew...

Tried a Ingeral double hammer impact would not touch it.Went and got 3/4 inch but had trouble finding 3/4 to 1/2 inch adapter. They do not make 17mm 3/4 inch drive socket. After 20$ worth of gas running around borrowing stuff it came right off. They are not lying you have to have at least 1000 ft. #'s of torque to break it loose.

Re: How to -Remove your crank pully- (strategy400)
I used the screwdriver in the flywheel after removing the starter. With an 16 inch 1/2 inch drive breaker bar I managed to sheer off the Crankshaft bolt with less than 300 lbs of force. I would strongly recommend an impact wrench with liberal use of Penetrating oil for a couple days or weeks before the attempt.

Re: Amazon nut
I didn't know about these nut adapters when I had to crack off my Prelude pulley 8 yrs ago. What I ended up doing was buying a 2-inch hex nut from a specialty hardware store, and used a bench grinder to shave 1-2 mm off each of the 6 sides. The nut now fits into the pulley, the 17mm deep socket fits through the nut's threads, and the nut also sticks out far enough for a big-*** crescent wrench to grab it.
To loosen the pulley bolt, wedge the bigass crescent wrench handle against the driveway, put the 17mm + breaker bar onto the bolt, sit down in front of the car, grab the bumper with your hands, and kick/stomp the breaker bar until the bolt pops.
The same 2" shaved nut worked on the D16Z6 when I needed it this year. Great success!

Re: How to -Remove your crank pully-
You people are making this more difficult than need be. Not everyone has special tools or impact wrenches. The easy fix to this problem is to take a 1/2" breaker bar with a 3/4" or 19mm socket, 6 point recommended but a 12 point should work as well, put the socket on the crankshaft bolt and position the breaker bar up against the A arm or CVC drive shaft. Get in the car and turn the ignition key to jog the starter motor. It doesn't take much. Ta Da, the crankshaft bolt is now loose. Work smarter, not harder.

Re: How To - Removing your crank pulley
power built makes a 50mm honda pully socket hold $35 , i think autozone in the US and canadian tire in canada have them. Use the with 2 breaker bars. Jack up the car and remove tire. Sit on the ground grab one breaker bar with two hands and push the other one with your feet. works every time. and make sure you sockets have a life time warrenty , gone through 2 so far

Re: How To - Removing your crank pulley
My son and I have been trying to get the crank bolt off for three days on a 1990 civic. I used a 350 ft lbs of tork electric Impact, no go/ I borrowed a compressor that puts out 120 pounds of air with a 450 ft lbs of tork 1/2 impact gun and no go/ I tried a 3/4 inch drive electric impact and still no go. I then removed the pan and slid a block of oak between the crank throw and the block and used a 1/2 inch drive 24 inch breaker bar and applied all the leg pressure I could muster and broke the oak block in half.
I will take any suggestions someone will offer up as I am running out of solutions and time here. Thanks in advance for any help offered.

Re: How To - Removing your crank pulley
1) Soak the crank pulley bolt overnight in PB Blaster or some equivalent penetrating oil.
2) Remove a spark plug and then fill the cylinder with rope when the piston is at its lowest position. Then use your 24" breaker bar with a 3' metal pipe extender to get the most leverage.
Good luck.

Re: How To - Removing your crank pulley
Thanks for the replies Guys.
I hit it heavy with moovit, beat it some more with a steel drift and a 5 lb baby sledge hammer. Then I borrowed a commercial grade 990 ft lbs of tork electric impact for large trucks. It still took 8 minutes with the impact before it finally broke loose. But it is off thank god, I have never seen anything like it.
