Default How To: Removing Door Beep in a 95 and 98 Civic!

I know this is a half-a$$ed "How To" explanation, but here it goes:

Disclaimer: Remember all modifications are performed at your own risk, I am not an expert and I will never claim to be.

1. Remove the 3 screws underneath the steering column and place them on the floor.

2. If you have an adjustable steering column, push the lever down to drop it for easier access to unsnap the plastic cover.

3. You will need to unsnap the steering column cover, use finesse since it is very easy to break the plastic tabs. I carefully pressed inward at the seam of the column cover to unsnap it (if you know a better way, go ahead and do it).

4. Once the cover is off, you will need to locate a bronze colored screw attached to the bottom of the metal key barrel and remove it.

5. There is a squarish black plastic switch assembly with two wires hanging out of it that the screw holds in place. Pull it out of the hole if it did not already fall out with the removal of the screw.

6. Replace the screw in its original location and leave the switch assembly hanging.

7. You will need to make sure that you leave the switch hanging or find a place to tuck it where the activation pin will not hit anything, or your beep will return.

8.Snap your plastic column cover together, being careful to line everything up (this will prevent snapping the plastic tabs off).

9. Reinstall the screws and readjust your steering column.

YOU ARE FINISHED!

This is the only beep removal that I know of that still allows your dome light to work. The only things you lose that I have experienced are the extremely annoying key-in-the-ignition-with-the-door-open-B..BB...BEEP, and the car-just-started indication beeps (Beep...Beep...Beep...Beep).

When I get a chance I am going to try this method on my 1990 Civic Si. I would be willing to bet that this method will work on most Honda models.

I guess that is what you would call it.
