How to remove top speed limiter 00 Civic EX?
While adding many performance accessories and increasing engine horsepower I cannot get past the 105MPH top speed. I already sent the ECM out for reflashing of it. Jet Performance will NOT do any modifications in this area of the computer. Is there any way to bypass or eliminate the speed limiter?

My 00 DX hit 121mph. Might be something wrong with the car, if it's a automatic and u have it in Drive 4, put it in Drive 3 and u can go over 105mph.

i got rid of mine with an apex rev/speed meter. it overrides the limiter. actually i can program it to whatever i want, like 30mph or 150mph. its pretty tight. i only paid 50$ for it at the apexi garage sale.

No the SOHC d16y8 still has a limiter set at 120 miles per hour and 7500 RPM. Once you reach this speed I did several times going to Vegas it shuts down the fuel to the motor. Giving you the shutdown feel. <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Kronic »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">someone please correct me if im wrong but everyone ive ever asked about speed limiter removal an 96-00 civics (obd2) has told me theay dont have a limiter. only the older obd1 civics had a speed limiter.</TD></TR></TABLE>

Are you positive it is at 120? I have seen my speedo hit around 125mph unless it is that inaccurate which isn't something I would doubt. It seems that it is being drag limited too because it doesn't feel like a sudden cut, it feels more like it just can't accelerate anymore.

Also, Hondata's are supposed to remove the speed limiter. I will have one in a week or too. I'll test it again after that.

My speedo must be off.....we'll see what happens when the Hondata is in. It's supposed to remove the speed limiter.

My fuel cut on my 00EX is around 120mph as well, I hate the harsh cutoff, wish it was an spark cut at least

i drive a 00 ex and have found that the speed limiter is arround 127 or so. my car will run roughly 120 in 4th but gain no speed in fifth. but one day i was racing a lude down the side of a mountain. this was when i hit about 127 in fifth and it cut out.

Re: (civicman02)
Is it really a governor/speed-limiter or does the engine just run out of go around that point? According to my manual I can reach around 115mph in 4th gear. The stock engine won't really be able to pull too much past that in 5th gear.

besides a hondata, what are some other options for getting passed the speed limiter? ive checked around and no one really chips obd2 ecu. erick at http://ericksracing.com/ can reprogram obd2 ecu but hes the one who told me obd2 does not have a speed limiter to remove.

I think that all cars in the US have speed limiters. It's just the fact that I don't think the D16 will reach it in stock form.

my car has intake and exhaust and it reaches the limiter no problem in 4th gear , if ihad it out i could go way way past it.

Did you hit this supposed speed limiter or did you hit the rev limiter? If you hit the rev limiter, then no you can't go past it... Well, you could, but only if you like bent valves. The rev limit isn't there because Honda doesn't want you to go any faster. It is there to prevent damage to the valvetrain. Any higher than the rev limit/redline while using stock internals and you have a very real chance of trashing your engine.
If you want to rev higher than the rev limiter allows then you need to remove the rev limiter and MOST IMPORTANTLY upgrade the valvetrain to handle the higher revs...
