Default How to remove dipstick stand thing?????

Ok so basiclly my block has a the thing that holds the dipstick thing in place that hook ups to every block (not sure what is is called) but for some reason my block has a shorter one than other blocks so when i want to check my oil and pull the dipstick out it sits so low that it is touching the header and it is very easy to get burned..

So i went to honda and bought one for a b16 block which is longer and would allow me to read my oil and i wouldnt get burned. Because with the one i have no i cannot check my oil becuase since the dipstick is so loose i have to make it fit and snug so where it wont pop out of the thing so obiously makes the stick go low inside the engine..

so my question is how can i remove that thing and put the new one on????

is this a DIY? has anyone tried this before???

If I remember right, the dipstick holder has a rubber o-ring at the bottom. There might be a bolt holding a plastic piece around it or something, I'm not 100% sure about the b16 blocks. But, in the end, it should just pull out.

No, the dipstick tube has usually a bracket holding it to the block with a bolt or something, and after you get the dipstick tube free from the bracket you then just twist the tube and pull up and it usually just pops out of the block, it is held in by a rubber o-ring. Make sure you clean around the dipstick tube and the block so no dirt or sand happens to fall in your motor when you pop it out. Hope this helps.

This is exactly what I meant, you were just better at saying it.

I wouldn't I don't think they're like that from the factory, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Yeah no problem, and just like ****** said I wouldn't use any honda bond or silicone, just clean the o-ring good with a rag and lightly rub some clean motor oil over the o-ring with your finger when you go to push the tube back in and you should be good to go.

The thing is, are all the dipsticks the same length? If this "tube" is longer, wouldn't that place the dipstick higher which would give out an inaccurate reading?

That's what I was thinking when I read this. I think you will need a longer dip stick too then.

No there's a ten mm bolt half way down the dipstick tube right at the bend in the tube, remove that and wala. It pulls out and yes there is an o-ring, if that is fitting loose, replace it.

If you have a B20B, then get the dipstick and tube for a B20B. Don't just get one thing. They might be a different size.

B16:

B20:

The B16 definitely looks longer.

B16:

15650-P30-000

B20:

15650-P3F-A00

Different part #s as well for the dipstick. $16 at your local dealer. $10 for the tube.

i just looked at my block and it seems the only way you can pop it out is you have to take off the oil pan and stuff to it from the inside bottom..

That would be odd for it to be fastened from the inside. Take a good look around for the mounting point. I know some dipsticks on other cars just slip into the hole and just have a o-ring holding it in. It might be like that for your engine.
