Default How to remove back seat & rear panels from Eg hatch?

ADDED: After messing around for a few minutes I got the top two sections of the rear seats out...

1)Fold the top 2 seats down

2) If you look on the outside of the seats where they connect to the chasis of the car you'll see a black clip. Remove each clip (2 total).

3) Now just slide the seat all the way towards the outside of the vehicle and the inside of the seats will come loose.

To remove the lower part of the rear seat just remove the 10mm bolt from the middle located just behind / underneath the seat.

I decided that I am going to gut the entire trunk and just leave the back seats forward intact. I have to keep the back seats since I have a daughter, otherwise they would be out as well.

I need to remove the rear seats to get the 2 panels out that run along the sides all the way back to the rear (also going to paint the back of the seats where they are a rust color. Also, the panel that is on the hatch bottom lid where the 2 inner tails are located. How do I get that panel off. I've tried pulling on it and thought I'd ask before I pull to hard and break it.

Thanks for any info on this!

a screwdriver (to remove bolts) and a good tug always works for me!

I must be missing something because I don't see any bolts. On my 98 LX there were 4 bolts that held the 2 rear top pieces in place. Don't see them on the Eg. They are just held in at the base of the seats on both sides with a metal rod that extends from the seat to the chasis of the car.

I just gutted my hatch a few days ago so i think i can help you for the panel on the inside of the hatch lid.

First off, the only screws that hold down the panel are the 2 screws that are on each side of the lever (the one that you trigger to lower the hatch)

Then, you must remove the little plastic **** that is on the same lever to lower the hatch. I found it slighlty difficult. I used a set of pryers and kept on pulling and pulling and moving in different directions to losen it. It WILL come off.

Then, you can yank the panel starting at one of the corners. The panel is held by metalic clips tha will either stay on the panel, or stay in their slots on the hatch. Just a couple of yanks, and voila!

I also painted the back of the back seats cause they were rusted as hell. I used black Krylon radiator high heat paint. Worked amazing. Enjoy the gutted hatch.
