How reliable honda is...
Ok, I have a green '99 honda civic ex. On may 17th, 2008, i took it to tri-state raceway; It had a tuned ecu for an H22A1, redline was around 8200, intake and full exhaust no cat. I ran a 16.02 @ 81mph. 3 days later on my birthday, I was racing sum1 in town and at the top of 2nd gear i snapped a rod! I put an inch and a half hole in the front of the block, a hole in the pan, and a big crack by the oil filter. I had it dollied to my house and in the driveway. Heres the punch line,... It still ran!!! I find this to be the reason why I go with honda!
After that, the car sat for a few months. Me and a good friend, (civic9390), spent 4 days putting together and putting in the new motor. As the car sits now it has as follows: D16A6 block, PM7 domed pistons, stage 1 brian crower cam, OBD2-to-OBD1 jumper from rywire, stock P28 ecu, and all OBD2 under the hood is gone. It has a spun rod bearing right now, that will be fixed tomorrow. It should be well past break in by the time I go to the sept. 6th meet.
Id like to thank the following for helping w/ the car: Dustin, Derek, Jed, Mike, Richard, and morgan. Hope to see you in Des moines.

You're going to *try* to replace the rod bearing with the engine in the car? I would expect redundancy here.

So am I reading this right? You had a H22A1 ECU for a D16Y8 engine? You were revving the poor engine to 8,200 rpm? When I first read this I thought you had a H22A1. How could you expect the engine not to die? Why the hell would you do this?? Thing's don't seem right here... I'm confused.

Re: (civicex_1134)
So you want replies from people saying "Oh wow, you changed the ecu and blew a hole in your motor and it still ran? Cool"
Seriously though, what is this thread about?

Meh, its been done before. I've seen a D15B7 blow up like that, actually it was a little worse, pretty much ripped right through both sides of the block and drove the piston into the head. Dad had a straight 6 AMC in a '72 international scout II that through a rod and he drove that on and off the wrecker. just about anything will do that, they just wont run long with no oil and oil pressure.

okay the point he is trying to prove is in the topic you clicked on it to get here...What did it say?? wait here let me just refresh your memory "How reliable honda is..." Thats what it says please re read your reply and sit there and think... It's not the fact that he blew it up. it's that fact it still ran with a 1 1/2" hole in the block on both sides and a hole in the pan. not to stir up anything but you obviously didn't read before you responded. take it as you want it because here it is.

My friend put a rod through his block... It still ran, so he put a brick on the gas peddle, and started it up. It ran for 26 minutes before dying...

How reliable is a Honda? Quite reliable. However, the more you mod and [freak] with it the less reliable it is. Oh, and most hondas don't normally enjoy 8200rpm.
Lastly, hondas hate salt.
