how reliable is the CVT HX (1997)
Anyone have experience or knows if the CVT transmissions hold out on these?
I dont know too much about these earlier CVT models. Dont know if they are $$$ to replace if they break down either.
Thanks for the input.

IMO the CVT is a great idea, but honda craped out on it, the tranny for the hx is crap. I have seen a lot of people have it crap out on them, and they did not beat on it or have any bolt on's.
the get a new cvt will be hell and not worth it, stay away from it, if you going to go with a hx go manual IMO.

Re: FV-QR (NOFX)
If they are properly maintained, then they are good. However it is common for people & repair shops to put regular auto tranny fluid in instead of the special Honda CVT tranny fluid. This will shorten the life of the CVT. There's also a $300 start clutch that causes the car to shudder when starting to accelerate when it wears out. You have to remove the transmission and take it apart to replace this. ($500 just in labor from Honda)
The transmissions are expensive to replace, seen them from $800 to $1600 (new). If you buy a used one you risk the same problems happening again.
I can tell you from personal experience, converting from CVT to manual is not as easy as a regular auto to manual swap.
