del Sol VTEC motors are stamped "B16A3"
99-00 Civic Si are stamped "B16A2"
all JDM imports are stamped "B16A"

as for how many there are....not many...

ok so a B16a3 motor is a USDM motor.... hhuumm b/c the car was 100% stock but came w/ a jdm valve cover.... so how much power does the b16a3 motor come stock w/? and also i was under the impression that the true B16 del sols are rare and they only make like 1,000 of them. But that was just word of mouth!

94-95= b16a3
96 = b16a2
regardless of model civic or sol.

I've got a 95 B16a3 Del Sol. Sols are rare where I live, but in general, theres quite a few of them rolling around.

a real del sol vtec with original engine is pretty rare. If there were many of them it would be easy to find one at a salvage yard....

helll total production on ALL Del Sols was less than 75,000 as well. I would be willing to bet around 10-15 percent of those cars are DOHC VTEC cars, meaning 7500-10000 of them in total production at best.

Incorrect. They made Del Sol VTECs every year except 93

I've seen a decent amount in my area as well

Yes.

The base Del Sol had a D15B8
The Si Del Sol had a D16z6
and the "Del Sol VTEC" came with a B16A3, B16A2 depending on whether it was OBD1 or 2

they're decently hard to find, a quick search of the classifieds proves that, they're not collector item rare though. The number I've always heard was 1 out of every 100 sol produced was a VTEC, you see a lot more SI's and S's.

as you guys know, i just have to chime in for this one...

93-97 Del Sol's:

93-95 Del Sol's:
Del Sol S - D15B7 SOHC non-VTEC 102hp 98lbs/ft tq
Del Sol Si - D16Z6 SOHC VTEC 125hp 106lbs/ft tq
94-95 Del Sol VTEC - B16A3 DOHC VTEC 160hp 111lbs/ft tq

96-97 Del Sol's:
Del Sol S - D16Y7 SOHC non-VTEC 106hp 103lbs/ft tq
Del Sol Si - D16Y8 SOHC VTEC 127hp 107lbs/ft tq
Del Sol VTEC - B16A2 DOHC VTEC 160hp 111lbs/ft tq

Yes, the B16A2 was equipped in the 99-00 Civic Si, but it was also equipped in the 96-97 Del Sol VTEC. the difference between the two is OBD2a/b. you guys should know which one is OBD2a and OBD2b (common sense).

only the 94-95 Del Sol VTEC's were equipped with the B16A3.
difference between the A3 and A2, the B16A3 is OBD1.

as for how many were made when they were in production, i don't know the numbers, but there weren't many. there should be plenty of threads that you should've searched that had the answer to that question.

hmm interesting. 94-95's have an 8200 redline, and the 96-97's have an 8000 redline.

OBD2 settings maybe?

makes me feel good reading this having owned two del sols, first one being a stock auto d15 swapped to a b16a/ls trans after a while and a second one which I currently own thats a all original b16a3 she’s got some issues but no check engine light. I see less and less sols by the year and recently junkyards haven’t even had one and barely even any gen 5 civics at that these cars definitely reaching a point of extinction especially any with a b16 those get swapped almost immediately I’ll keep mine for at least 20 years before even considering selling no matter how she treats me I’ll forever have it in original condition my first matching vins too since my first eg at 16 never had matching vins so I myself know the rarity of what I just happen to stumble on but if you get the feeling I do in this car it’ll come to you just stay saving they not getting cheaper by any means

A VTEC del Sol is worth reviving a 15 year old thread for! I've got two now and "get it"....
