How To: Quiet your car down....in the coming 2 weeks
I'm going to be sound-deadening my car in the coming weeks. I'll be showing how to properly disassemble it, clean it, and apply sound deadening. I also plan on weighing individual panels, doing a "before and after" measuring with a sound meter and a ton of pictures.
If anyone has anything specific they'd like to see, please let me know now, and I'll do my best to capture it on film and write it up.
I'll make a seperate thread once I start.
The car I'll be using is my 95 hatchback.

I think this is going to be good information cause i just want to do it on some parts of my car where I can hear most of the noise when I drive.

nice, im planning on doing the same thing, I was going to weigh the roll of dyno mat or whatever i find to see how much it is adding, It wont be much though. I would rather add fifty pounds and have a quite ride.

This car is not a track car. I daily drive it, and want it to be as comfortable and quiet as I can get it. The engine has enough weight to overcome the weight, so, that is'nt a worry either.
I'll be weighing all materials before installation to give everyone an idea of how much it will add. I will also be using my Term-Lab meter to give you an idea of the sound difference for a before and afet.
Thanks, and please let me know if there is/are any more specifics anyone would like.

I added a little sound deadening over the summer.
Bought roofing crap from home depot...works...
Only did the rear 1/4 panels and wheel weels, but it quieted it down very noticeably.
Dont need a how-to, but it will be a good read, Im sure, since I know I didnt do it very professionally...

I just finished this in my EK hatch. added about 100lbs total. Don't use Dynomat... way overrpiced. Use Rammat.
As for what works.. the single largest quieting agent was the carpet padding in the panels. I gutted the hatch area, filled in the side panels where the wheel wells were and bought a roll of 1/2" carpet padding.
One layer of carpet padding on the wall, then 2-3 layers behind the panel. Put the panel in, but leave the speaker hole open. Cut small pieces (3"x6") of carpet pad and stuff the panel as full as you can up to the bottom of the speaker.
My car is DEAD SILENT in the rear. I also used the pad under my carpet in the front. It's like a lexus. Now all I hear is the HVAC panel creaking and some minor front end noises.
This isn't all I did, but the most effective. I also fabric taped EVERY EDGE of every panel. No where in my hatch do two hard materials (metal on plastic, metal on metal, etc) touch each other.
I also fabric taped all the latch linkage rods in the hatch release and all the loose wiring before taping them down. that made a big difference too.

This is a much cheaper, more effective to Dynamat for those intested that read this. I will be subscribing to this.

Hey fucktard, not everyone thinks their honda is made for racing.
Go back to worrying about your dummy light plug.

boosted92= The "lexus" results is what I'm looking for. I'm gonna try my best to stay under 100 lbs. But, the way you described it is exactly what I am going to try and do.
I'll be taking tons of pics, so, don't worry about that.
To everyone arguing, please, take it elsewhere. I know this is'nt going to make my car faster. I'm not concerned about that. Please, if you re going to argue, do it in PM's or something.
I'll be creating a new thread once the project begins.

here's a quick list of all the stuff I did:

And as soon as my power window regulators and motors come in (Tuesday), I'll be tackling the doors. Supposedly the doors make the biggest difference.

FWIW, Rammat is butyl rubber with aluminum backing.
All that Home Depot garbage is ASHPALT with an aluminum back. It will eventually sag or fall off when it gets hot or cold enough, and doesn't exactly have the best smell either.
62.5sqft of rammatt is $100.
36sqft of dynamat extreme is $300. Kinda crazy, huh?
