Default How to prevent overheating

did a search....didnt find what I needed...

whatsup, iight soo today after a 20 min drive on the freeway and in the city in sunny socal i came home n parked my car, noticed that my del sol was overheating, the temp gauage needle was one line away from the red H on the gauage......I went and checkedout my motor and everything seemed fine (no leaks or smoke) except when I touched both the top and bottom hoses coming out of the radiator they were both really hot!......what could be the problem? how can I prevent overheating? I'm kinda low on money currently so if anyone can give me a cheap/temporary fix that would be great! thanks

What engine do you have? The reason I am asking is cause when I swapped the sohc for a B18C, my engine started to overheat alot so I had to install a bigger rad as the one that came stock on my 95 coupe was too small. After I got the bigger one, I never had that problem again. Hope this helps.

could be thermostat, water pump, coolant leak in one of the pipes, faulty temperature sensor, etc.

are you missing coolant?

since you said there was no leaks or smoke, then most likely it is a bad thermostat. They go for about $10 to $30 at Autozone.

96accordlxf22b2, it sounds like you need to get laid or somthing.

Exactly. Before you get too worried about ANYthing, check it out. But most likely it's the thermostat or waterpump.

Before this thread completely bites the dust...

1) Is it overheating on the highway, in the city, or at a standstill, or all three?
2) Do you still have heat coming out your vents?

Before you start replacing random parts try to diagnose the problem or when the problem occurs.

Cheers and good luck.

faulty therostat, water pump, fan switch. if you want a quick fix you can run a switch directly to the fan and have it on all the time

Well to kill the whole fan running all the time thing.... Its a waste!!! Its there for when ur idling or in traffic moving really slow. Driving 15-20mph puts more air across the rad and engine bay then the fan. The fan will only slow the air down.

And onto the original post. Check the thermostat like everyone has said. Then i would just flush the system while your at it already anyway. If that doesnt remedy the problem you leave 2 possible culprits. The radiator and water pump. I would check the radiator for alot of fins bent up maybe some holes you know what i mean.
