How old for project car?
I am considering buying a cheap car just to learn/work on..
I have a 96 civic I use for daily driving so its hard to try anything major.
I saw an ad for a 1990 civic for $900 obo, would this be too old to get started with?
I want to do an engine swap and other things to it
thx

It really all depends if u like those cars. I kno lots of people that love those cars some even more than the eg, so its up to u i guess. If ur gonna swap the engine then all u really have to worry about is the body.

$900 for a 90 civic sounds like a good deal, as long as it's not rusty.
Those cars have a lot of potential to them. You can pick up a first gen B16A swap for what, $1200 bucks now days. I'd get that if I were you.

You might be able to pick up a '92+ CX, or VX with a bad engine for about the same price. It would probably be easy as hell to find parts for.

I bought a 92 just because I don't like the pre-92 body style as much. If you like the older ones though, go for it.
There arent' as many parts available, but there are still PLENTY to work with and as said before, B-swaps are pretty easy.
As long as the body is in good shape, its not a bad idea at that price.

a 90 civic really is about 15 years old mind you. there will be more wear and tear on all components, including the little details that nobody thinks of: bushings, interior parts, and anything that can break will probably need replacing in a worst case scenario. let's take teh brake system for example: brake pads, rotors, booster, master cylinder, lines, adn there must be something else that i forgot.
I'd go with at least an eg, for theye were a substantial upgrade to the ef series civic and there are more parts available.

Re: How old for project car?
The EF models are great cars with a some work you could easily turn it into a high-powered beast or even a purdy little show car
well actually not easily but it shouldn't be any harder to work on than an EG and aftermarket support for EF's is still excellent parts shouldn't be hard to find at all especially if you do a popular swap like a B16, B18 or D16
