how much would you pay for this 2000 civic ex?

I went to see in person and test drove it today, it's pretty clean. Has a faint cigarette smell. A few small door knicks on both doors. The rear bumper on the left side isnt sitting flush with the car. A few small scratches here and there. The car also has a clean carfax history. I was negotiating for at least $5800, but the lowest they were willing to take on the car was $6500. What do you guys think?

I work for honda and if that was a trade in vehicle they would give them 2 grand for the car and sell it retail for 6999 without even putting a dime in it and retail is usally 1500 to 2000 more than private party so that car could probably be bought for 4500 no more than 5 grand, and thats when times were good so with things being bad if they get it I'd be shocked

I definitely agree with you all, I've even brought up some of the suggestions you guys made to the dealer and they still won't go lower than $6500. They're supposed to call me tommorow, so if they do, Im going to see if I can hassle them to go down to at least what I'm asking for. Any tips?

the best ti[p would be just to wait it out and play hard ball. dont whimp out just because its clean. not a lot of of people are buying right now so you have the upper hand on low balling. if they call back just tell them look I would love to buy the car but the most I can give you is ..... what ever u think is reasonable and they will most likely say no . but u just might be surprised when they will call back In a day or few days. Happened when I was looking for an SI and when I was looking for a prelude.

well if you really like this car then this is what I would do. If the lowest they take is 6500 then basically they are asking excellent price for a car thats not in excellent condition. If you look at any Honda documents about service then you will see that Honda recommends your Timing Belt, Water pump and Drive belts are changed out at 105k or 7 years whichever comes first, so I'd negotiate that to be done by a Honda dealer and the dents removed and all service be brought up to date by Honda standards. Then inspect the vehicle for all the flaws that makes it less than perfect. There asking full price for a car thats not nor will it ever be perfect so thats crazy. If they wanna ask crazy prices ask for crazy stuff back. I'd even ask for a powertrain warranty, ha ha then I'd probably walk away if they agreed.
Everyone on here is right this car is way over priced

id try to talk them down to 6000 if not 5500. make sure u use ur basic negotiating skills, use the power to walk away, there are always more options.

In all honesty that is way too much to pay for an EX. I bought my 98 for 2500 and it was in exellent condition. I got my SI for 5k and it is in awesome shape. I would walk on him unless he can go lower to like 4500 or 5. Way too high.
It looks like it's from a dealer and if that is the case that is why it is so high.

I wouldn't pay more than 5200. Thats a low mileage and clean Civic, but 6500 is Integra or Si territory in good shape.

As a DD/first car/family car. Definitely. It's one of the cleanest civics I've seen in a long time. No ricer modifications, no serious problems, and very low mileage. CLEAN interior. Completely stock. I would definitely pay $6500 for it.
But since most guys on this site are for power, for a nice fast car, you can definitely snag an Integra/SI for that much. But higher mileage, been beaten on, much worse condition, bad interior, molested with aftermarket parts but hey you have 20-30 more horses on your motor!

I bought my 2000 Milano Red EX for $7995 in Nov. '07 (15 months ago) with 76,000 miles at a Honda dealer.
