How much will stock exhaust hold me back?
Right now im running a b16a2 with hondata chipped p28. in my 4 door eg. I just wanted to know how much power im losing with stock exhaust. I just bolted it up, before i was running with the cat not bolted up because i had lost the nuts, and whenever i bolted them up i feel like ive lost alot of power. I know im not imagining this, its a noticable differece and i think i might be choking my motor. the cat rattles nonstop. Im working on a new exhaust but its like 3rd on my list of **** to do. For now would i just be better off running just my headers bolted up?

the only main performance loss is that you don't "hear" power, but that doesnt mean its not there. Exhaust may net if your lucky 3 hp to the wheels. So as long as its a si exhaust, Theres no harm.

its not stock si exhaust, its stock EX exhaust. with a b16a2. basically im concerned that the diameter piping may be too small to let my motor breathe.

check the cat...maybe the heatshield is hitting the cat when it runs...my **** did that and I found out so I had to rip that shield off...It stopped rattling after that...but yeah the exhaust will hold you back a lot...not enough air flow get the ES Oval perfect in flow cant go wrong with it...not as loud when you drive daily but load when you smash...you dont lose any hp with the ES Oval the stock exhaust will hold you back to much

If you go too freeflowing, you lose low end torque. I can tell you it sucks *****. Unless ur planning on running at least 3000 rpm to get going and waste money on gas, then go ahead. I would stick to stock exhaust.

My buddy has a 94 civic coupe with a b16, he had a tanabe super medallion, then changed back to stock because it was WAY to loud and he noticed no difference at all.

Everyone has different view points with this exhaust thing but really it comes down to the overall system. Your buddy prob had a stock manifold, pipe, cat = restriction. So basically having a tanabe behind that wont help at all. If he had a nice header with 2.5 collector and testpipe then I bet he would notice a difference. At least this is my experiance with exhaust systems.

"A chain is only as strong as it's weakest link"
If there's restriction at any point, then only that much air will travel through all of the unrestricted area.

agreed. open header guy is a dipshit. Only cars that can do that are boosted cars. I have a b16 sir2 block in an eg, with my sp, ws2, and stock dx exhaust, only dif. was the sound level to me. And I run stock headers and cat.

on a b16 open header might not have gains... on a mildly built h22 that jdogg duno'd.. open header made more power than his 2.5" catback
