How much torque for valves?

How much torque for valves?
Sounds like a couple of my valves are tapping (im guessing and HOPING they are just loose) cause the motor runs strong and u only hear it at mid range rpm.
i have a stock EJ1 and was wondering how many lbs to torque the valves to or if there is a link for a service manual.
any comments appreciated!!

Re: How much torque for valves?
Its probably just the valve lash that needs to be adjusted.
What do you mean by how many ft/lbs for the valves? Have you ever adjusted valves before?

Re: How much torque for valves?
im sorry for my ignorance ive never done any type of valve job, just watch a youtube video on it and i grasped the concept. a few of my valves are loose to the touch, in the video he says .25 up front and .20 in the rear. i dont have a feeler gauge but im going to get one. i was fiddling with the arms and the clearance seems a bit much on some.
where is the valve lash? i took back my torque wrench cause the video said you dont really need one and that its harder to do with one

Re: How much torque for valves?
The valve lash is what your adjusting (the distance between the cam lobe to the rocker)
If you dont have a clue as to what your doing, I would just pay someone the $60 to do it for you. You can easily mess something up.
If you do it yourself be prepared to....
Rotate the crank by hand till the cylinder you are adjusting is at top dead center.
Loosen the tappet nut
Have your 10mm bent cresent wrech (or actually tool for it) and screw driver in hand
Adjust the lash with the tappet screw using the screw driver
with slight pressure on the tappet screw (as to not move it or you'll screw up your adjustment) tighten the tappet nut.
Triple check your clearances are good.
Are you prepared every way possible to do that?
There are also plenty upon plenty of "do it yourself" tuturials on a valve lash adjustment

Re: How much torque for valves?
ive worked on alot of cars and have a 80% knowledge of everything but the 20% is from me never digging into anything past the valve cover lol so this is all new to me. im not going to worry about torquing them to spec cause my mechanic said thats not really realevant and its just more of a hassle. i wanna do it my self so i can learn ya know? i know i have to rotate the crank and line up the motor dead center, etc....
ok heres my new question, what is the clearance needed ? the guy in the video was working on a 2000 civic and i think he said .25 on the exhaust side and .20 on the intake side.
another quick question, is there any preformance gains i can get by giving more or less clearance on the intake or exhaust side of valves?

Re: How much torque for valves?
Wouldnt a very informative video tell you the lash specs?
Have you thought of spending the few minutes to look them up? Instead of waiting for a response that may not even be correct....

Re: How much torque for valves?
Op-Sticker under hood, if the hood hasn't been replaced. Btw, the #'s you've stated so far is way too loose(big). Should be more like .008ex .007in. Don't use my #'s, check but they're close. Ex is looser b/c it gets hotter and expands.

Re: How much torque for valves?
just not found out the specs, .007-.009 intake and .009-.011 on exhaust.
in the video he mentioned .20 and .25 but his car is a newer year. I have the D16Z6, the stock clearance calls for .20 and .25 but im trying to improve preformance
i found a good write up here
