how much should the timing belt move?
how much should the timing belt move once its properly installed. like on the front side of the motor where the belt runs from the cam gear to the crank gear, that long run. mine moves about 3/4-1 inch, thats too much right? im also getting a ratteling sound from that area, if thats too loose will it cause the ratteling sound. ratteling is only at idle.

Rattling is most likely due to tooo much flex in your timing belt ( tensioner not adjusted correctly, or an aging belt) and it is chattering against the inside of the timing belt cover.

Yes, an inch is way too much! Adjust your tensioner...it's a bitch but do it ASAP...not worth shitting up your motor. You need to remove the covers, and I think the driver side mount, as well as any accessories in the way (power steering, ect). There's a good DIY for timing belt change on here...search and follow those directions without removing it just adjust the tensioner. good luck
