Default How much to replace wheel studs?

Hey guys my friend Syzle on h-t ran into some trouble tonight. He is on the highway about 6 hours away from home and his rear wheel fell off and he drug his lower control arm across the ground for about 50 yards which pretty much shaved down the wheel studs he sais. He could probably replace them himself, but since he is away from home how much do you think its gonna cost to get a mechanic to do them for him?

is it the wheel studs or is it the spindle. If it is the wheel studs, what you have to do is get a chizel, and hammer away at the back where the spot weld is. Once you get that out, pound it with a hammer to get it out. Then, feed the new stud through. If you can get at it with a hammer, then good, if not, get a lug, and start to pull it through. If you have a welder handy, place a spot weld behind it. If your ghettotastic, buy some JBweld, and put a little bit on there. Some good locktite might work too, don't know.

these are bery easy to replace, pry open the rotor and pound out studs and replace, senseless to have a mechanic rape your wallet

Read people, read! His friend does know how to do it and normally would, but he is stuck six hours away from home and doesn't have tools. He just wanted an idea on how much it'd cost him, probably weighing towing costs vs. this cost.

I definately know how this goes. It's a crappy situation to be in!

Yeah they charged me $70 for a tow (two miles away) and $80 to fix it. What happened was my lugs were shaving the studs off. I got a mile away, and it happened again. Charged me nothing to tow this time because the guy was really cool, and they fixed it for $35. I think the LCA is alright, it grinded for a bit but its not noticably bent or gouged or anything, just a little scratched. My lip is broke in 3 places from going up and down on tow trucks, my exhaust got ripped off, and my rear bumper is a little broke on the clips on the side. Oh well, atleast Im home. Im just broke now.. Slept in the car two nights, it sucked :\ Hanging out in truck stops wasnt the most fun either, I fell asleep in a chair in a "TV Room" and the manager woke me up and thought I was a homeless drunk and tried to throw me out. WHat an adventure

Certainly sucks, but life could be worse. Glad oto hear that despite some hefty monetary loss everything is ok.

i drove 25 miles on two studs to get my studs replaced.

60 dollars because of labor charges, parts were 6 dollars.

It's NOT fun getting studs replaced, and replacing them yourself is just as hard. I've tried both ways, and it's easier just to get it done.

It's actually quite easy on a Civic or Integra. On an Accord though it's easier to just pay to get it done...
