I was just curious about how much of a gain i can expect on a stock motor from switching fuels

None. it will only guard against detonation. Higher octane will not detonate as easily, allowing you to run higher compression, or more boost. So, unless you are detonating, there is really not much benefit to upping octane.

some lower comp motors run a lot better off of 87... the 91 is too hard for the motor to burn...

You need it when you have Turbo/SC/NOS/High Compression. Any other time just use whats recomended

higher octane gasoline burns slower.. therefore there is absolutely no performance gain by using it unless your engine setup requires it. use the lowest octane fuel you can get away with.

92 octane burns hotter i think than 87, but ya I agree totally with guys above on detonation. It seems to me it a tank of premium doesnt last as long as regular. But maybe i just drive it differently.
