How much over heating does it take to cause damage?
The ******** who sold me the car did not leave much water in the radiator. So today as I had the air on in first I heard it knock a bit...looked at the temp gauge and it was right on the H redline. Pulled over and poped the hood. Took off the cap....let it vent, Added water after 20 minutes & then it ran fine & the air worked much better. I did not notice it getting hot because no light came on and it ran fine, but the air was getting warm & I knew something was up. Do you think I damaged anything? Prolly not but I want to hear an opinion. No wise *** remarks please...

change out all your coolant. Then, check your spark plugs. They can tell heat damage sometimes. DO a compression test. Also, check for any part of your radiator or engine that may be blue from heat damage. change your oil and transmission fluid and check for any particles.
