how much for a k20a2 swap into a eg?
Well i am not sure if this topic should be placed somewhere else, but i regulary post here and thought this would be a good place to start.
I want to put a k20a2 into my eg, yes i know they don't make mounts for cheap but i found some for $599, the engine for $2500, and then i went to a performance shop to see how much the install would be. they told me that it would cost around $2-3k just for labor!
I do not know if I am right in thinking that this is to much but if someone could either recommend somewhere else, or how much it should cost me, that is what I am looking for. Thanks again

That's about the cheapest I've ever heard. I ran figures on it once, and it ran over $10K. You'll need a lot more than the engine, and the mounts to get it in. If you do a search someone created a pretty detailed install guide, and posted it. It's a nice guide, but doesn't cover some of the headaches of this swap. For more info check out http://www.K20A.org

all in all I think you should do the swap yourself, paying somone 2-3K is WAY to much for a motor, your price so far are pretty good though, do a search for hybrid racing they had a complete GB goign on and that will give you an idea of how much everythign should cost, and what all you will need...

If you can actually get the engine for $2500 and it's legit and in good health, buy it TODAY. You can sell it for twice that much and you've made a profit. Then decide what you want to do.
EDIT: I'm assuming you mean full swap

Re: how much for a k20a2 swap into a eg? (EGRhatch)
so the overall price for just parts is $3k? How much do you think it should cost to have a competent shop install it, or how much money would it cost me to buy parts to do it myself? thanks for all the replies

Re: how much for a k20a2 swap into a eg? (civiccpedx)
i would say you're going to spend roughly $6-7k on everything (excluding the car). i wouldn't suggest performing the swap yourself, unless you know you can do it, it can be a little frustrating.

Re: how much for a k20a2 swap into a eg? (chainsaw)
from what people have said, the swap is not much harder than say an h22 into an eg, very similar from what I have read. for a competent shop to install it, not to sure of I would say about 1-2K depending on if they've done it before or not... and if they havent done it before then I would think it to be better to do the swap yourself cause as far as you know they dont know **** about what to do and will spend more time researching on how to install the motor that you can do yourself... just my .02, but if they dont know how to do it, they are bound to get stumped just like you would and who's goign to be more determined to get your car running, some guy at a shop that wants to get off early to get home or the guy that would stay up all night to get the car running and still go to work at 7:00 the next morning... (yeah that was just some rambling)
But GL with whatever you do, I promise the money you would spend will be worth it

that motor is going to be way more then just 2500. i say with the money your trying to spen either buy a GSR swap and turbo or buy a B18c5 and build that up

Cheaper? Hardly, the cost of the 2 engines are close to the same. HOWEVER, if you search hard enough, one could find a k20a for cheaper than a b18c5. b18c5's go for about $4,000-$5,000. A good find on a k20a could be as low as $2,500-$3,500.
Although the TOTAL cost for the 2 swaps is different, in the end the k20 will make more power and be much more fun. And b18c5's are over-rated, so is the whole ITR/CTR craze for that matter. But then again, that is just my opinion.

the difference in power is very little and i dont see how its going to be that much more fun to drive. that hassle of a k20 swap is rediculous, go with the c5 or turbo gsr. in the end your going to spend more for the k20 swap. especially is someone else does it for you. with a b18* swap, its much easier to do it your self, therfore you will have more pride in what you drive.

Ahem. Definitely put that money toward boosting a b18. Especially for an EG. It's just a lot easier and practical.

Re: how much for a k20a2 swap into a eg? (jeef84)
C5 swap would be easy, but not cheaper. we just put a C5 in a friends car with a mild build (which matched the whp of a stock K20R), and it ended up being about the same amount of money as a K swap and that's without paying for labor. his exact quote was " i should've just gone K series ".
turbo GSR swap that's done properly will not be easier and sure as hell not cheaper than a K20 swap.

If its going to be installed by a shop, make sure you go to a shop that has done this swap before - expect to pay $1250 - $1750 for labor.
that $3,000 in parts can change quickly. left out of that list are
1.)look into getting hondata K-pro (its expensive but worth it) people have gained 20 whp/tq across the HP/TQ curve. K-pro is fully programable (fuel/timing maps as well as cam angle = the "i" in i-vtec) ~$950 for reprogramming of your stock ECU. if you do get K-pro make sure to have some extra $$$ for tuning
2.)header DC sports will not provide gains like custom headers (DTR, TrueRace, Hytech) DTR lowered their price to around $1,000 for their 4-2-1. My adj. Hytech ran me $1,400. these headers will support 220-230 WHP!!!!
if you look around you can find better prices on mounts...I have seen hasport sell for $495 shipped
-if you get the USDM k20a2 you want the ep3 throttle cable
-if you get the JDM k20a (type r) you want the 96-00 dx hatch throttle cable
-find a RSX-S clutch slave cylinder.
-you don't necessarily need a custom radiator...you can use any 1/2 size rad (I would suggest a 99-00 si or del sol) & custom mount it or you can use a RSX full size rad
- P/S you only need a the ep3 idler pulley if you are going to eliminate power steering. You can keep p/s if you notch the hood skeleton & get custom hydraulic lines made & reroute them from their original location
with a 60K motor - you definitely want to look inside the tranny, & compression/leakdown test the motor. also look into replacing the stock clutch (& a lighter flywheel while you are in there

Re: how much for a k20a2 swap into a eg? (civiccpedx)
I just put a B18c-r in my SOl and don't get me wrong I love it but it's nothing like the K series. They are fairly easy to extract power from and my choice would be K series.

I have an 03 RSX Type-S with 32k on it. I was recently trying to sell it to get away from the $470 a month car payment and $250 a month insurance. I had it parked at work for sale about two weeks ago and it got stripped. They got my hood, fenders, bumpers, headlights, tailights, intake, seats, and Bose speakers. The insurance totalled it and cut me a check for $20.5. I bought the car back today from them for $3500. I am thinking about selling the body and dropping the K20 into an EG or EK. I already have a CRX but i'd like to be able to close my hood. I'd say I got a killer deal on the buy back.
P.S. The insurance quoted me $2200 per seat for new type-s leather. Total for RSX Type-S leather interior.....$5600!!!!

Re: how much for a k20a2 swap into a eg? (NAallTheeWAY)
well the swap is a full k20a2 swap, that is the engine tranny and harness/ecu. it has 60k miles and is selling for $2500 at a local salvage yard. THe performance shop told me that they can get me the parts for around $600 and then another
2-3k for the install. so I am looking at around 5,100-6,100 dollars. for the install and swap, then i would prolly need a new clutch and so on
