Default How much horsepower will stock civic motor handle?

Just as the title says....how much will a stock civic (04 model) motor handle. I was throwing around the idea of buying a civic here in the near future due to rising gas pricies and just the overall cost of the car. But 127hp won't cut it for me. I'm hoping to get around 250whp. I'm sure the stock motor won't be reliable pushing that kind of power, so I figured I'd be having to upgrade the internals a little bit. By doing some reading on some boards I've come to find that there are a lot of very knowledgeable people here. I hope someone can turn me in the right direction.

Welcome to Honda Tech.

I'm not sure if you are familiar with forums, but there is a search feature on the upper right hand corner.

The search feature enables you to look at previously covered topics.

Most people here get mad when a topic is re-introduced unecessarily.

read up!

I've read that ~225 is the limit on the internals, but of course there are some running much more than that on stock internals and some running less than that blowing up. Do a compression test first to see what numbers you get and go from there. But I would go ahead and upgrade the rods and pistons at least if you want to get 250+ hp. Check out the forced induction forum. There's tons of people there with SOHC turbo's.

rods are only good till around 210-220whp. any more than that and you are asking for trouble. Yeah, there are people out there making 300whp on stock internals, but there are more people riding the bus because they thought that they could do the same.

Guys, he is talking about the D17!

Your in unkown territory. I'd say due to the stroke increase and rod lenght increase as well, you're looking at a maximum of 200whp.

Anything furture and you will need new rods for sure!

I don't plan on doing anything to the outside appearance besides rims, tint, and coil-overs. I'm gonna keep the factory spoiler and body kit on it and keep the color. I was thinking some nice gun-metal colored rims with a chrome lip would be badass. I think clean and simple is the way to go. It's gonna basically look like this but lowered and different rims. And I also found a local place called Majestic Turbo's to do the turbo system. I'm awaiting an email from them to see what kind of turbo setup they'd suggest.

k20a swap from a acura RSX type S, get a hondata reflash, header from hytech or some were else and an intake you should be up in the 200whp range thats a GUESSTAMATE but people with similar setup ran there.

and i don't know what world your coming from but 250whp in civic is ALOT OF power. these cars don't weigh much at all, so if you can drive the 250whp will get you down the 1/4 mile quicker then ****.

although i would suggest buying an 96-99 civic if you wanted to go for speed the cars just seem to get heavier and heavier.

Not really for speed...the 04's just appeal to me more than the earlier models. Besides, I don't like buying used cars...never have. Maybe 250whp was shooting a little high. Maybe it would be better to say that I wanted to do the quarter in the high 13's/low 14's. That isn't too terrible to ask a civic to do is it? Once again I am a newb to these cars and thier engines and if I'm asking to much of these cars someone please set me straight.
