hard to tell I've seen a lot of inconsistant power come from SOHC's, Just go for it and do that and go dyno it. I'm sure it'll be decent. Oh btw, you blew the y8? If the head is still good throw it on the y7 block!

yeah, you'll gain 20hp by putting a y8 head on a y7 block. all you have to do is bolt it on and wire up the vtec

and I hope you have a dyno chart to back that up...

D16Y7 = 106hp
D16Y8 = 127hp

Granted I dont know what the piston domes are like on the Y7 and the Y8 does have some pretty small combustion chambers, but I doubt it'd be 20hp

This might help but keep in mind the guy here used higher compression D16A6 pistons

It depends on year. 96-00 the D16y7 only made 106hp, while the D16y5 (hx) made 115 hp and the D16y8 made 127 hp.
I believe that the 01-05 civics d17...dx lx made 115 while the ex stayed around 130 hp maybe 135 but not sure.

So...<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by C2daIzZle &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">yeah, you'll gain 20hp by putting a y8 head on a y7 block. all you have to do is bolt it on and wire up the vtec </TD></TR></TABLE> is correct unless you want to get **** and say 21 hp not 20 hp.

Anyways I have y7 and have but the y8 IM and header on and you do feel some, like a little, increase maybe 2-5 hp. I haven't dyno my set-up yet because I am still kind of new to this. Ant other question feel free to pm me.

its a 98 d16y7 engine and is the head off my vtec bolt on only? trying to keep this simple as possible. and trying to get the most horse power also i think i threw a rod it in, so is the head still usuable?

We're only talking about the y7 here... and yes you are correct I just looked it up, I could have sworn it was 115, but oh well.

I never said 155 and it's actually 106

Just by adding an intake manifold and a header? You won't even feel the difference.
