Default How much fluid for Gsr tranny gear fluid change?

How many quarts do I use to change the gear fluid in a gsr tranny? I tried searching but couldnt come up with anything. Is it 2.5 quarts?

i only use honda transmission fluid. never heard any complaints before with using this stuff, and its only $4.50 a quart for me. with royal purple, ive heard good and bad stories... i only hear good stories with hmtf.

Just stick with Honda MTF. As blackKready stated, it is now an improved formula, and the feedback I've seen so far seems to be quite positive.

expletive Honda MTF or Royal Purple

Synthetic 5w-30 is all you need. I use the Wal-Mart brand and my tranny shifts smooth as hell.

Oh yeah and it's 1.8 qts

honda MTF or GM synrco mesh...depends on my mood when i decide to change it.

and their is an overfill plug on the side of the tranny that you take out while filling it. once you put enought fluid in it, the extra will come out of the overfill hole.
that's what i normally do. I'm 99% sure it's 1.8quarts...not 2, idk how big of a difference it makes tho.

You can buy the correct fluid from Honda for around $5.00 per quart. Considering how infrequently it needs to be changed, why even bother trying to save a couple of dollars by using Wal-mart motor oil instead of what is actually recommended for the transmission?

I thought synthetic fluid wasnt good for a manual tranny (Im not sure.) I thought the tranny needs SOME friction. And also thought it's supposed to be 10-30 if anything. Am I wrong? I just got back from HONDA and was told 2 qts is what I need so I bought 2 qts from them. My tranny sat for almost 4 1/2 years in my shed (only 36,000 miles on it) and finally just got my car converted to stick. I have no idea whether the guy who swapped my tranny used good oil or not so I bought the right stuff from honda. Doesn't hurt right?

2 - 2.25 quarts no royal purple will destroy your tranny the synthetic oil is real bad for the soft metals in the synchro's bearings and gears.

I as well as everybody I know all use 5w-30 synthetic and none of us have ever had a problem.

We hit the track every weekend too, sometimes making 30-40 passes in one day, I don't baby my car.

5w-30 is smoother than when I had GM syncromesh

oil is better for your tranny than GM syncro imo. but honda MTF is better than oil.

For the B16 tranny, Honda recommends 2.3 qts. I would think that a GSR transmission would be the same quantity. Look in your driver's manual.

Stick with Honda MTF, its cheap and quite obviously Honda formulated it right for its cars the first time.

Fill it up until it runs out of the fill hole, then close it up. Not rocket science.

And as far as GM Synchromesh, I think it's the poo. Definetely makes worn syncro's much less noticeable than both oil and Honda MTF. And yes, I do speak from experience, I have tried them all.

I personally use Honda MTF until I start having problems from a worn tranny, then I go to the GM Syncromesh.

Can anyone here prove that Honda MTF is something other than oil?

Yes, there is at least one VOA and UOA of Honda MTF from a few years ago. It's obviously not the newly available updated formula (which is reported to perform extremely well), but the analysis of the old formula still indicates that it was not simply re-badged Honda motor oil, though it wasn't all that dissimilar to 10W-30 in certain respects.
