How much did you pay for your paintjob?
I keep getting quotes in the 2500 + range!!!! WTF?
All I want is a basic repaint..not even in the doorjambs, with my stock color. Doesn't even need much body work because it will have new bumpers and fenders, and only a few dents...
Can these guys be serious? $2500 for a basic respray!?
How much did you pay for yours?
Anybody know of any good shops in the DFW area?

You pay for the quality. A paint job for 800-1000 $ is not too bad, but a paint job in the 2500 and + range will be very very nice. Me, I pay 3000$ CDN for my '91 civic. And that has been one of the better moves that I make on my little zizic...
Don't pay for a boring 500$ job...
The price is not JUST for the paint job... but a lot in the preparation of the car before the big operation...

well I realize that...
but there's nothing to pay FOR..
I mean everybody in the industry uses PPG products anyway...basic Basecoat/Clearcoat.
all in all, materials would be in the 400-500 range, and a few hours of spraying. WTF am I paying ove a grand for nothing for!?
It's not like there's any body work to be done

Re: How much did you pay for your paintjob?
It's all in preparation. I can get a GREAT $800 spray job (which means I do all the preparation and pay for materials) for $450. Whenever I have the time I'll be doing this since my father, brother and I are all in a Body Restoration & Painting class because my father has been painting cars since he was a teenager. He painted my CTR front, rear lip, wing, and grill. It only cost us $50 for a pint of the paint. and prep-work took like 3 hours. All in all it looks factory.

$2500's what I paid for my paint job. I basically had 3 options. (well more if I had more money)
1. Get a $250 Macco Job. There is nothing wrong with this if just want your car painted and don't care about the quality or overspray.
2. Get a $500 - 1000 job at a local garage. This is a hit and miss situation. Typically, the $500 jobs will get you no better than the macco job while the $1000 job will be decent.
3. Get the $2500 job at a reputable shop. This is what I got. And this doesn't even include door jambs or engine bay (I repainted with the same oem color). This shop pulled off all non paintable parts (ie: head & tail lights, linings, window moldings, etc.), sanded the body down to the primer level, re primered and used PPG Frost White, clear coated, wet sanded and compounded with a limited warranty.
And that inclduing putting my car in a spray booth for cleanliness and oven baked for faster and much more even curing of the paint. Ok, I'll shut up now.

$552
94 hatch
1. door jam
2. under hood
3. i took off all my head and tail lights they paint that.
4. back trunk lid cover
the main reason i had a great paint job done to my car was i prepared it good so it was easier on them. that's the key factor if you plan on painting your car with a cheap price. prepared it good.

Re: How much did you pay for your paintjob? (SleeperEG6)
Yeah, I prepped and did bodywork. Then paid for materials and a friend sprayed the car for me. So pretty cheap.

TONS, of places around here for paint.. I havent really went out to get quotes, because I want my engine first before paint. I suggest you prep it yourself then go get it painted. It will be a lot cheaper.

BTW,
All these quotes I've been getting...that's with me taking out the headlights, all side moldings, mirrors, corner lights, doorhandles....everything. And on top of that, there's not even any body work to do! like maybe ONE dent...because it'll have a new hood and new fenders and new bumpers.
Autobody paint prices
I wish I 'knew somebody' like half you people do

Re: How much did you pay for your paintjob? (Plan B)
i know a guy down here who will make your car look brand new ! jambs, engine bay, and everything. he quoted me 2000 for a complete change. i am sure it will be a lot cheaper for respray color.
