i've noticed home made turbo kits seem to be the most popular with d series builds, usually costing around 1.5k

WHAT THE expletive???
dammmmmmmmmn, u got some connections, 'cause there's no way u'd hook urself up with a full turbo system w/o the FMU for $450 in an open market...it's like 200 for the turbo/wastegate and another 200 for the mani -- nice goin man
I'm aiming a bit higher, think it's going to cost me around 900-1400 bucks, I'm going to piece together my own system but I'm going to buy forged rods/pistons/bearings so I have a solid foundation - this way teh daily boost won't hurt it and I don't have a chance of throwing a rod...then if I wanna turn it up to like 25lbs for a race it'll withstand that too...not gonna touch the valvetrain as a daily driver I have no intentions of revving higher...but that's like....easter or next summer break O.o
at OP:
people piece together their own kits...don't buy one, it's not worth it..
