there is a long bolt that kind of sticks out on the compressor bracket.
that's the tensioner, loosen that and the belt will loosen.

uhmmm, no.
loosen the bolt in the middle of the` tensioner pulley itself. 14mm I believe.
once that's loose you can turn the pulley adjusting doodad. It's an 8mm I belive.
You'll have to take a couple bolts out of the bottom mount that attaches to your frame to slip the belt on. You'll see what I mean when you're down there scratching your head going WTF?!???

Yeah, don't loosen the long bolt until you loosen the one in the middle of the pulley.
My friend learned this the hard way when his tensioner bolt snapped on his eclipse. The dealership wouldn't sell us just the bolt, only the entire assembly, so we ended up searching/calling an assload of junkyards until we found one an hour away that would sell the bolt...

Re: (Jorsher)
hey thanks for the response.
hmm i guess that's where i went wrong? i loosened the long bolt, then loosened the pulley bolt. the long one is 10mm and pulley is 14mm. it wouldn't budge still? i guess i'll try it the other way around.
yeah i removed the 14mm motor mount bolts and slipped hte belt in, but couldn't get the damn tensioner to loosen. thanks guys

Re: how to loosen a/c belt tensioner
I have the opposite problem, a loose ac/belt and the tensioner bolt and bolt locking nut are easily moved by hand with oil drips from my old 09 CRV.
How do I tighten the ac belt? turning the tensioner bolt by itself does not seem to have an effect. Does the pully bolt have to be loosened and pully moved?
If so, diagram would be really helpful. Because this just happened, and the belt is fairly new, is it likely my tensioner needs replacing? If so, how hard is that?
Access seems to be the main problem. P.S. I hardly ever use the AC and can live without it. But the ac belt is so loose, I mean depresses about an inch,
that I am worried it could come off and interfere with the other belts. Can you help?
