im pulling out the 32 hp cx motor friday night and putting in a gsr motor in... about how long did it take everyone to do their swaps? ill have airtools and everthing else at my expense... just wondering what everyone comes up w/ (sorry im bored)

and also what problems did everyone have w/ their new setup? check engine lights ect... THANKS

JDM B16 into a 1994 VX Hatch= 5 hours total work time.

This was with air tools and a lift also.

The only swap I took part in took about 6 hours with three guys and that was on a 240sx.

My dad, me and my brother drop motors in about 45 minutes.Install new ones and wiring everything back up about an hour or so. As long as you have all the tools and everyone has a designated area to work on it will be easy. Can't really tell about check engine lights, the condition of the parts may vary, maybe broken map sensors or knock sensors. Just have everything planned out and everything organized and you'll be good to go.

kool thanks guys.. yeah im a lil nerves... not b/c i dont know what im doing b/c i do and so does my friend im just nerves b/c its my daily driver but the motor is in great shape along w/ the car and all the parts so it should go fine.. and im prob lookin at i guessing 3 1/2 hours to take the mota out also

Total time from driving it into the garage and jacking it up to driving it away 5.5 hours.. Including putting a new timing belt, waterpump, cam seals, rear main seal and oil pan gasket in... 3 guys with a pizza break in there somewhere...

Is your swap in the same OBD as your current motor? Does your car have wiring for vtec, and knock? Is your Iacv plug compatible with the new swap or are you going to have to repin or replug.. All of these little things are nice to have ready before you start to pull your motor.. Which harness are you going to use? If its the harness on the swap its nice to be able to have it all hooked up and drop it in..

I dont even time myself anymore but once i pulled 2 motors (complete swaps), and swapped one in overnight (10-7) so thats what, 9 hours. I had 1.5 helpers, mainly they passed tools and disconnected stuff.

if u have all the tools and you know what your doing...it should fly like nothing...took me by myself 30-45 mins to pull the motor, roughly 1hr -1hr 30mins to install and running..thats with 5mins breaks in between..

I usually leave two days just in case you need to order something.


Also double check things like fuel fittings and the oil drain plug, and the big one, fill it with OIL.

D15&gt;D16 about 6hrs by myself.

UPS didn't deliver the damn waterpump and timing belt until I had already dropped the motor in.

Don't even try to do a swap in the time some people claim to do it in. It's not a speed contest, take your time and do it right. Plan for a weekend to account for anything that may come up like stuck bolts or wiring issues.

I've done tons of swaps and I still take 7-8 hours to perform a basic B16 swap in a garage with hand tools. I know it's done right with no codes, engine bay is not all scratched up, and wires/hoses/bolts are not all hacked.
