How long can a motor sit on an engine stand???
Hey guys how long can a second generation b16a sit on an engine stand without anyone touching it???
If it has been sitting for 6 years is there anything you would do to the motor before putting it in the car??? ie.. replace seals. I'm allready going to replace the timing belt, tentioner and oil pump. Just wondering if sitting that long is a bad thing...

indoors, low humidity, protected from dust with some cover? or in a shed in a rain forest..?
look for rust and corrosion. check all specs you would find in a rebuild manual; rotates freely (within reason), deck flatness, bore size and roundness, signs of excessive wear or damage, ect.

id remove the valve cover and lube up what you can. remove spark plugs and add a tsp of oil to the cylinder. maybe take the oil pan off and lube the crank the best you can. if its a rotational stand then fill her with oil and tip her upside down for 5 minutes. then flip her back over right side up.
was it stored with oil in it? was it rebuilt before putting on the stand or was it in the plans too rebuild it?
lots of questions.

Motor was kept in heated garage, Low humidity, with ports taped shut and garbage bag over motor ducted taped closed around the stand. It is on a rotating stand. It was pulled by previous owner to rebuild. 2 days later he got orders to ship off to hawaii with the military. But motor was never torn down, just pulled and put on the stand.
I like the whole flip it upside down for 5 mins or so.
Do you think i should turn the motor over by hand while its upside down???

I've been beginning to wonder about this as well. I have an engine on the floor (garage needs to be cleaned, stand needs to be assembled, need to get some bolts and engine needs to somehow get on said stand).
I've seen two engines that sat (one was in a car as it sat for an unknown period of time) and both ended up blowing up. I can't think of any other engines I'm aware of personally that sat and didn't meet the same fate... so I'm concerned.

Fresh oil change, pull main relay and crank it over for 10 seconds to prime oil pressure. Fire it up and smash the pedal.
Or you could just tear it down and rebuild it, since it's already out of the car.

So I just thought of something... what about all these motors sitting down at hmo and the other importers... lots of thet first gen b16a's were pulled from cars due to japan's mileage laws. And they have been out for awile... So I think it should be fine but still want to hear more...

Mine sat for 7 months, 2 years later it is still runing perfectly.
My friends JDM GSR sat for almost a year and a half. ( the car is was going into was totaled). Once he got a new car, and the money needed we put it in and it fired right up and ran great. We did change the oil pump, water pump, oil change, etc. Let it crank for a for like 10-15 seconds and fired it up.
