How to install spoon sports calipers and bleeding your brakes
just installed some spoon calipers on a 5lug suspension. you'll need 17mm deep socket, 14mm deep socket, 10mm deep socket (so you wont need extensions).
the calipers
on the spoon calipers they are made left and right sides. it does matter which one goes to which. in the pic below you will notice two tab things sticking out in the arrows. those are suppose to be on the top, above the one by itself. the one in the picture is for the passenger side.
unblot these two bolts with a 17mm bolt on the back side
then you can unbolt the brake line from the knuckle arm to give it more slack with a 10mm. then you can unbolt the brake line from the caliper itself with a 14mm.
after you have removed all you can slide the spoon caliper (or aftermarket caliper) into place. for the spoon caliper you either have to bend the rotor dust cover back towards the car or trim it (i just bent it back for now, and will trim it later when i replace rotors).
reverse the process, bolt the calipers on with the 17mm bolts, replace the brake line with the 14mm and replace the brake line holder on the knuckle arm with the 10mm.
after replacing everything it should look like this
oh nooooooo its bleeding.........time
now its time to bleed your brakes. place the car on jack stands and remove all the wheels for easy access to the bleed nipples. you will need two people for the ease of this process. first fill up the brake resevior with DOT 3 to the top and pump the brake till the fluid level falls. fill again and repeat until you can not fill it to the top anymore. then it is time to bleed. you work from right rear, left front, left rear, right front (looking at the car from the rear) and work in that order. you will need a clear hose with a bottle. fill the bottle with some of the brake fluid about 1/8 of the way. submerge the hose into the fluid in the bottle and put the other end onto the bleend nipple on the caliper. have your friend pump the brake 3 times and hold on the brake down on the 4th pump. then you will take a 10mm open end wrench to the bleeder nipple for the rear stock brakes. loosen the nipple 1/4 to 1/2 way to release fluid and until you see bubbles come out of the nipple. once bubbles/fluid has stop coming out tight the nipple up and have your friend pump again and repeat the process until there are minature airbubbles or none at all. do the same for all calipers. remember fill the resevior after about two releases. for the front spoon calipers there are two nipples for each caliper. i did the nipple closes to the engine then to the one closes to the rim. the spoon nipple is 8mm. after you have done the process above fill the resevior between max and min. and you're done.
i have +45 offset 16inch spoons and they barely and perfectly clear the calipers as pictured below.
one more pic just for fun
*SIGH* done..... hopefully this is good info. please let me know if there are mistakes. enjoy

i have some kind of after market pads that came with my 5lug but can not make out what they are. they're blue on the backing. maybe they're stock not sure. but i will up grade pads and rotors in the near future.

10 bucks says we'll see an Endless slotted rotor and Endless pad install.
Or maybe Project Mu...
JFWY. Nice tech post. I did a rear pad install today but if you can't figure that out on your own, you shouldn't be working on cars. No pics.

Re: How to install spoon sports calipers and bleeding your brakes (EKology)
i thought you bled in the order right rear, left front, left rear, right front. that is waht my manuals says. I would think cause it is diagonally balanced.
but kid1320 i am loving the car. Everything thing is looking solid. no half *** **** going down

Where did you buy your 5-lug from and how much was it? How many pistons do the Spoon calipers have? How much of a performance gain have you noticed?
