Default How to install JDM Eg6 parking pole (mounting)

I'm making this thread for those who had the same problems i had in the beginning: of drilling a hole for a JDM Optional parking pole. There seem to be a lot cars driving around with the pole not on the correct place, or the pole is not straigt up and down.
Because i couldnt get very good info about this, i decided to make this info myself.

Here's a small tutorial for it...

OEM bumper with 1 BNIB pole (complete) and 1 used one (pole only)

First of all: You actually need a parking pole for this. Some of you may know now that there (a lot) NEW BNIB parking poles for sale... The problem with these are: they are more than 20years old, never been used, and the belt that pushes the pole upward is in THE SAME position for over 20years.. I bought a new one, and the first time i used it: the belt snapped..
The reason they snap is pretty simple: after being in 1 position for 20years, it doesnt like being bent in different angles after all those years...

My advise would be IF you want a really nice (retro)fit for your parking pole like i want it: Get a NEW BNIB harness, manual, switch etc.
BUT! Get a SECOND HAND POLE!!
Why you may ask..? Because these belts are actually a little more ''tentionless'' and move more ''smooth''.
+ If you manage to get a new harness, it makes the electrical part sooo much easier to install and makes the whole assembly looks cleaner.

1 BNIB pole with harness switch etc, 1 used/second hand pole

Second of all: props for Deschlong for the extra info of the EXACT mounting point for a parking pole. He made it possible for me to make this thread with the necessary pictures. Also i really have to thank him for the drawing of the bracket he made.

Note: requires OEM Honda bumper, knock offs will probably not do the trick... (+ awefull fitment..)

Just like i had. I'm quessing you had to face the truth of drilling a hole in your bumper for your JDM parking pole..
It would be a shame if the hole is off centered right..?

Don't worry.. Honda allready thought YEARS ago you were gonna drill a hole for this cool JDM goodie....
(This tutorial is based on a 5th Gen Hatchback/Coupe bumper (Eg))

First thing i did was reading the manual i had with my BNIB pole..
The manual told me the hole has to be 19mm in diameter.

Soo, i just went measuring JUST to be really sure.

Well, that didnt suprise me at all... Honda was right

Now that that was clear, i was searching, and reading about the mounting place untill Deschlong had an announcement about the mounting ALLREADY was IN the bumper itself (markups).
So i turned my bumper upside down, cleaned the bumper.

As you can see, i allready drilled a little hole before taking this picture

Funny thing here is: the spot were i drilled the small hole, there was also a same sort of spot you see left, right top and bottom around the middle.
Those small spots are 19~20mm apart from each other..
That's exactly what the OEM manual told me... 19mm...

As it turns out Deschlong was right here (duh..), what i also found out is that the markups are in the bumper for eighter, Lhd AND Rhd!!
So actually every OEM Honda bumper you can ''convert'' very easy to fit a parking pole.

Here the hole is visible from the other side

After comparing it with Deschlong front view of his parking pole mounted on his Eg, the hole i drilled should be spot on.

Deschlong his parking pole mounted correctly

My own JDM parking pole

As you can see, both poles seem to be on exactly the same spot..

The pole is actually right on top (in the middle of it) of the part of the bumper where the bumper is angled ''down''

Here you can see the ''angled'' part of the top ''nut'' that **** over the bumper

Now that we have the hole drilled, testfitted the pole itself on the bumper and confirmed it is on it's natural place, it is time to fit the pole with the bracket that is attached to the pole. Rhd bracket will NOT fit onto a pole fitted on the Lhd side... So time to make a bracket (IF you want it to be on the Lhd side)

For a template of a Lhd OR Rhd bracket, see below for the one used.
Made by Deschlong so the credits go to him
(see Attached Images below)

After i printed this, i cut out a piece of paper and just testfitted it on the pole.

Here you can see the black bracket is the OEM Rhd bracket, and the white paper is the converted Lhd bracket

You can clearly see that the brackets are perfectly mirrored.

Piece of paper used to check the measurements

Now, if you follow the drawing as above, you should be able to make a bracket that will hold your pole in position. There is some play in the holes of the bracket, so you can make little adjustments to make the pole stand up straight.
(i personally don't have my bracket finished yet, because i'm going to let it laser cut to make it look perfect)

If you finished to make a bracket, and mounted it...
And you wired up your car for it (i can scan my own manual to make it a little easier for you guys, i owe you on that...)

It should look like this:

Testfitting and testing the whole assembly

Note: i did NOT used a bracket yet, and still the pole is pretty straight up.

When i have my bracket, and the bumper is back from the painter i will update the thread to show you guys how it looks on WITH bracket.
All and all it's not all that hard to fit this JDM goodie. Any questions: throw them down below..

I really hope this is usefull in some way for other members that are planning to buy this JDM goodie.

Greetzzz FreakoRico

This deschlong guy sure has been a busy little ****.

Nothing for 6G ones but I'm guessing the concept will be ridiculously similar.

Huh. Just noticed an error in the numbers for the bracket template. Can you spot it, too??

1.9 + 2.1 != 5.0?

That's the one. Looks like I also added the extra 1cm beyond the 'bend here' line. Who knows. Guess I'll update it, now that we're 5.5 years later. Wouldn't want any chumps who are bad at math complaining, even after I did all this work for them already. Note to self: This why you CHECK YOUR WORK, PEOPLE!!

Original link, for the curious. Note I have no idea what I meant by "I need to double check the location for a 5th Gen Hatchback/Coupe" in the post. Well, maybe I did double check already but never updated. Too much time has passed. Location was fine, obv. Perfect, in fact.

Turned out to be 5 points, not 4. So centering it is not necessary actually

Haven't had any time for the bracket..
Will asap if i have a bracket
