Default How Important is the SplashShield

Okay So I have a 1998 Honda Civic Cx, and I just recently Installed a Cold Air Intake in my Civic, and it goes down pretty low So I didn't attempt to put the splash shield back on. Is the splash shield really important? I live in seattle.

thanks for reading any help suggestions feedback tips would be great.

No its not really important but Honda put it there for a reason so just put it back on.

Plus, I like to think of it as a Mini-diffuser. It prevents air from hitting the bottom of your engine causing drag therefore giving you 10000 horse powers.

I would push that intake filter further into the cai piping and then put the splash shield back. Imagine how much dirt is on that shield. Now imagine all that dirt/water going straight into the filter. my 2 cents

This is kind of a no brainer...

Dirty filter = bad
wet filter = bad
splash shield = protection of filter from dirt and water

now think

If yo suck up water because you didn't want to re-install the splash shield; you could potentially hydro-lock you motor. You'd really be pissed then!

i didnt run a splash shield on my last car (dad threw it away while i had the motor out)

anyways, my engine bay was 10x dirtier without it. it was a pain to clean the bay out.

please put the shield back on

okay judging from all you guys opinions, Im definatly going to put my splash shield back on, but allow me to justify why I didn't immediatly put it back on. The reason my Cold Air Intake goes down pretty low is because I don't have a bracket holding it up at the coupler, The reason I don't have a bracket holding it up is because the alarm siren is in the way of where the bracket is suppose to connect to the chassis. So I have to relocate the Alarm siren first.

Or I could just run a short ram... But that wouldnt be fun (as I just bought the Cold Air)

okay so I got the spashshield back on without using a bracket. (I just lifted it up) only bad thing is that the radiator hose is touching the filter = warmer air... o well at least I'll have a cleaner bay/ filter...

I think I read somewhere that a CAI without the splash shield would cause the CAI to suffer from heat soak while stopped due to the heat of the asphalt.

..... FAIL..

I heard that intakes get heat soak from being real close to the engine, so lets remove them and not worry about it.

You mean Short Ram Intakes get Heat Soak from engine bay. CAI's advantage is that they do not suffer from this, however removal of the splash shield will cause heat soak.

ok, lets clear this up a bit. the OP is talking bout the intake filter heat/splash shield. not the big rubber splash guard that goes under the car.

anyways, never had a CAI cuz it rains alot here and i hear horror stories but sucking in water so thats a no brainer. plus, i've always ran a comptech icebox.

because you live in seattle, i would just make it a short ram in the winter, and then throw it back on in the summer, and then just do your best to avoid the bigger puddles, when you have the full cia on

thats what got my gsr's, first motor

haha ok my bad, i am wrong. must of read it too fast. if thats the case i would put it back to be on the safe side. prob doesnt make any difference if off but on the plus side it helps protect the filter.
