my tranny is getting really loud at 1st and 2nd gears and i believe its the release and pilot bearings. it makes the noise when the clutch is engaged and its getting louder. what's the chances that this is the problem? and if it is, how hard are is it to replace these bearings?

Take tranny off, remove flywheel and replace the bearings. If your going to go that far you might as well replace the pp and disk.

replacing the release and pilot bearing isn't very hard at all. it just takes quite a bit of time. when i replaced my release and pilot bearing my tranny still had the same problems as yours. good luck.

so if you replace the pilot and release bearings and it still makes that terrible noise, what the hell could it be?

Question: So when you engage the clutch it`s making noise? Kinda like a dentists drill or something? Does it have any effect on your idle at all? I`m having some weird issues w/ my trans/clutch at the moment too.
