Re: how hard to reach 200hp? (blackline)
any honda motor + turbo = 200whp easily.
n/a, you'll need a b18c5 with GOOD CAMS and a tune.
or:
h22
f20b
k20a
f23
etc
Any of those with cams/tuning and you'll mark 200whp.
IMO, if you like boost, go for a b18b and turbo that. Cheapest option and they're a tried and true high horsepower platform.
n/a, If you have money, by all means to gor k20. If you can do it for less than $10,000 great, but EXPECT to spend $8,000-12,000 before you start.

I love high hp N/A Hondas (expensive as hell though), but I just think boost is more fun. You could break 200hp easy with boost. I agree with the b18b option it's a inexpensive motor and the tranny is great for boost.

To be realistic, on your highschool budget it'd be better to keep your honda stock and dont spend your money on it. Save up money instead. When you actually have a decent amount of cash, then work on it. Its better to do things right the first time. Instead of doing them half-*** cause your broke, then your parts break and you cant fix anything cause your broke. Dont ask me how i know.

hmmm...not really. you can hit 200whp on a b16. we all know this, the question is, is it worth it?

If you want 200whp and dont want to half *** it (aka nitrous), then your only practical option is a turbo setup. You can piece one together on your own easily...even on a low dollar budget. Come over to the FI forum and we'll help you out

Re: (994door)
Come on now. This is a high school kid asking for a motor that'll give him "200-300whp" for a DAILY DRIVER "until he can afford a Ranger his buddy is selling cheap." WTF is taking this seriously?

i wouldnt go as far as saying nitrous is half assing it- if its done correctly its a safe and reliable way of adding horsepower-
but unfortunetly 75% of the people on this forum run a 75-100 dry shot with no management and then bitch how its unreliable

I'm not saying that its an unreliable method, but if you want power, get something that doesn't need to be refilled every week. I see nitrous as leasing power...why not just pay more in the beginning and have something that has power whenever you want??

Oh i agree with you completely that it must be annoying filling up 40 bucks every week-- but for someone who goes drag racing once a month its not too bad an option

Re: (vestalfootball72)
If your in high school good luck with this goal, unless u got rich parents. If I were you stay away from the ranger thing youll end up spending the same amount of money tryin to keep the POS from running as you would getting a 200hp honda. Ohh as far as motor, My vote goes for the H22, then intake, headers, and if your lucky like me and live in a county with no DEQ punch out the inside of that catilitic converter junk and youll have a reall fun car.

I drove a '91 Ranger 4.0L as my first vehicle up until the end of my Junior year in high school.
The only thing that "broke" on it was a fuel pressure regulator...the only thing I ever had to do to that truck was put gas in it, change the oil, and I changed the spark plugs once. It's the newer domestics you have to worry about in the reliability category.
And how exactly will having no cat internals make it a real fun car? Is loudness and exhaust fumes fun for you? I've had a test pipe on my car before...been there, done that...get a cat.
My question to the OP is, what's your overall budget?
