Default How to get oil out of spark plug holes

I had bad spark plug O-rings, I mean really bad, and when I took off my valve cover there was a large amount of oil in each hole where the spark plugs go.

I have new spark plugs, but do I need new wires also? And how do I get the oil out of there? will it eventually leak down?

I searched but all I found was people with 1 bad gasket or something, and no answer as to how to get the oil out

Thanks guys

if theres oil in the spark plug hole its a blown head gasket. take out your plugs and use a rag

seriously it's the head gasket? I heard people saying that it could just be the o-rings?

it could be the piston rings also ...bad rings will leak causing the pushing up of oil.

agree I had this prob on my old engine. I believe it is just the o rings. If it is alot of oil, then I would think it is just the O rings gone bad. It would smoke otherwise.

edit: you shouldnt need new wires either. Not because of the oil at least, unless they are just really old or something

Just stuff some paper towels down in there. A little oil in the engine wont hurt anything though. But I do mean a little. Make sure you absorb as much as you can before you take out the old plugs.

No. It's the valve cover O-rings that have gone bad, not the headgasket.

out of curiousity, where would one go to get a compression test, and how much would it cost?

i had that yesterday, the pressure from the leak was causing my wire to pop off and it had oil up to the tip of the plug, i just used a mc donalds straw with the old suck and blow technique and then i used this stuff called "the stuff" and ran a small bead around the rings with the valve cover off, runs like a champ now

You can goto any autoshop to do it. Or, you can be a compression tester and do it yourself.
