Hey, I just bough a 1993 civic vx. And looking how to get a little more power out of it other than putting a turbo kit in it. Its already got intake and exaust done. If anyone has any idea's im sure i would put them to good use. Great site by the way. thanks

swap, if you don't want to go turbo. Honestly, you're not gonna get anything out of it with bolt ons

that car was specifically designed to be economical. the only way to get a real power bump would be to at least swap the motor. i say enjoy the mpg dude.

I'll to that. The car was made for gas mileage, enjoy it. If you want more power, swap a B16 in it. There cheap, reliable, make decent power, and you can find parts everywhere for them...

man. i have a 1998 civic lx and i was always looking for power too. but man, i did a short ram intake, msd blaster coil, dist. cap and rotor botton and im about to put a coustem exhust on it and it will have plenty of power..what state are you in?

you do realise that you might have 5hp more now right? and that its no quicker then what it is stock?

It's a waste of money to do a turbo on that thing (I know I have a 92 VX). I've got a D16Z6 sitting in my basement waiting for a small turbo build. The VX motor (D15Z1) has VERY small ports in the head and the intake manifold is INCREDIBLY SMALL. Trust me man, swap in AT LEAST a Z6 or Y8.

i would say to put a B-series in it. if you gonna swap another sohc in there and having to buy the turbo kits, it would cost more than the B-series itself.

honestly, I think your best bang for the buck would be a non turbo z6 or y8. I've seen running longblocks on here for $125. That's a hell of a price for about 30whp over what you've got now, and you can always turbo later. A d16y8 wouldn't be fast, but it would be a big difference over what you've got now.

Or, go B series. Either way, you have a **** power/money ratio on your current engine.

while a z6 and turbo might cost more than a b series you will get more power out of it.

with swaps come hassle in the end and something inevitably always goes wrong or breaks.

I actually just had a rod bearing go out on my b16 after under 6 months and went back to a z6.

singles are a dime a dozen - b16's hell a decent b16 swap is going to run a minimum of 1200 just the swap not counting labor if a shop does it. a Z6 is like what 400 at the max?

all those adds up can be way more than a swap. if we are speaking if he needs a shop to install a motor, the turbo would require shop labor as well (even tho it wont be as much). he stated that he only want a little more power. and i dont know what is wrong with your motor, but stock b-series swap can be a reliable daily, if thats just your goal, to drive with a little more power. that is how I would handle it in my situation, but he makes the call since its his car, his decision. i was just stating in my opinion.

Fixed that for ya.

A properly done NA swap shouldn't be any less reliable than stock IMO. A rod bearing can go out on the original engine just as easy as it can on a swap.

keep the car stock, if you want to go fast get another, vx's are sweet

i wish i had never swapped mine.
