Default How-To: Fix Aftermarket 96-98 Type R Rear Lip Fitment (Sedans & Coupes)

After a few attempts of trying to get my lip to fit correctly, I finally discovered that I had it mounted it on the wrong place on the bumper, which would cause the rest of the fitments to be completely off. I had it mounted too low on the bumper, which caused the sides to be longer on the sides.

this is how it looked before. I didn't like the way it looked and there were gaps all around it:

Now, The hardware that came with it consisted of:
4 self tapping screws
2 3" (im guessing) bolts
4 washers
2 nuts.

That is really all the hardware that you need to get it to mount right up correctly. The first time, all I used was the 4 taping screws, which mounted to the side of the wheel well as you can see in the pic. I didn't know how to go about using the bolts that came with it.

So, I took off my bumper again and went at it for a 3rd time. This is what I did:

First I took the lip off and looked at the mounting hardware.

The lip needs support for the sides so that it stays hugged up against the bumper so I used the Bolts, washers and nuts like this:

I drilled a hole through the lip, then through the bumper and attached it like you see here. so its goes: bolt washer lip bumper washer nut, Like you see here:

then from there i just tightened it so that it would be snug and wont move anywhere. did the same thing for the opposite side and now it fits perfect on the sides and all around.

This is how its supposed to look when mounted correctly:

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Still doesn't look like it fits well, but maybe it's just the angle.

I think painting it would make it look like it fit better. And look better in general.

Anyways, nice write-up.

That is a really sweet write up. It looks really nice. I don't know much about lips, but I'm thinking about getting one. Its hard to tell from the picture, but where you screwed the lip to the bumper, was it completely underneath, or if you take off the lip will the holes show on the bumper? I don't want to mark up my bumper in case I ever take off the lip. Also, is it bad for the paint on your bumper to put the lip over it?

Thanks bro..!

It fits perfect, the way its supposed to fit. All unpainted parts on my car will be color matched soon. I took out the zip ties because they were doing no good at all.
