Default How exspensive is a turbo setup

Well,

I have came across a lot of turbo setup's on here, and I would like to know how much did it cost you. I have heard a good 10k investment is about right for turbo project done right the first time. I know everyone on here likes to save some money but with tunning and so on; I would just like to know what the average person on here would spend to get it done right?

Drag 3 kit with tial w/g and greddy bov, greddy full turbo timer, missing link, hondata s200boosted, zeitronix wideband o2 with datalogging and cables, moroso 5quart oil pan with kick out and bungs for turbo oil return and oil temp, oil pan gasket, ngk iridums, autometer dual pod, single pod, autotechnics s-7 oil pressure gauge, boost gauge, air fuel ration gauge, golden eagle vacuum manifold with brass npt fittings. all this cost me about $4000.00. my next order will be for catch can, rc 310's, boost control, fuel pressure regulator, maybe a new fuel rail, msd, oil cooler. here at the local shop for five or more in a group its $60 to strap it on the dyno and 10 bucks a run (they average 5-10 runs to get it tunned it fully).

Bump

Because, everyone has there own ideas of how much they want to spend and dont really have a good idea of not knowing if it really takes about 10k for a great turbo setup + tunning.

I say this because my good friend tells me that is what it takes for the goal your trying to reach.

it can be more expensive to put together a custom kit. bying everything indiviualy is more expensive. for example tial w/g $250, greddy bov $199, spearco 350 hp intercooler $350, missing link $70, turbo manifold $350, turbo down pipe $300, turbo, $750, couplers and bands $100, intercooler piping $150, welding for the bov $50, fuel pump $100, vortech fuel riser $150, oil line for turbo oil return $75, vacuum lines $25, exhaust manifold gasket $35,

I probaly missed a few things but this is a very rough estimate not including shipping cost, and misc. fees.

basically it totals around 2955 for all that but as a kit I payed 2650, if you get more exotic it gets more expensive.

the important thing is making sure you purchase the necessities and not the admenities of the install, like the fuel management, proper tunning and installation. dont spend all your money on just the turbo and not have the proper fuel requirments or monitoring capabilities.

make goals for yourself and stick to them. I bought my car in 1999 and I set goals for myself then and Ill admit they have changed slightly but 95% of the goals I have stuck to and it has saved me a lot of money knowing exactly what I want and need for my ultimate goal. Dont randomly by stuff complete a particular project such as suspension and handling, body, fuel, ignition, power adder, airflow, interior etc. You will definately get more performance doing this rather than getting a set of seats and fuel rail because thats all you could afford at the time. save, save, save. personaly myself I work on other peoples cars and all that money goes into a lock box until I have enough to completely purchase my next project ie...project forced induction!!

I got really lucky with my kit but its all custom and used parts (pipping, intercooler, injectors) Heres a run down:

T3/T4 (.60/.63a/r)
RevHard Manifold
Turbonetic Waste Gate (6psi
DSM 440cc
Trust intercooler
pipping
Greddy type S BOV
NGK spark plug wires
NGK plugs (cant remember the number off the top of my head)
oil lines
VAFC
3 hours of tuning by Rage

Made 207whp/149wtq at 100 degrees (it sucked)

All this with tuning and everything ran me about 2100 give or take some but not much.

Basically it all depends on what you want.

if you want a cheapo d series turbo kit, you will need like $500-800 (to be relaible)

DSM turbo (or any other cheap turbo)
Get an CX exhaust matifold
Make a braket for the turbo
1st gen DSM BOV
Intercooler pipes
DSM, Starion, or any other intercooler you can get your hands on
dsm 440 injectors
chip your ecu for uberdata
I would just buy a boost gauge
oil and coolant lines (depending on the turbo), fittings
get it tuned really good

Better clutch and tires will be a must if you don't already have something

Im right about 3k with my setup.

Greddy Td04h-15g kit
Greddy Type 24 fmic
Tial BOV
Greddy E-Manage
Techedge 1.5 Wideband 02 sensor
Autometer boost guage
Software to tune on my laptop.
Walbro 190lph fuel pump

I bought everything new. If your doing this the first time, buy a pre fab kit. And make sure you have twice as much as you think your going to need. Your going to end up spending it.

What my turbo setup will have is the Defi guages where the face lights up and turns off when you start up the car or done for the day.

Note: Has anyone know of someone who has done a JDM b16a 1.6 and bore it out to 1.8 and turbo it.

If you take your time, and look for deals, and don't need the best stuff it can be done for a pretty good price.
