Default How do you TURN ON the CEL?

Hey I want to check if my CEL works and I have a feeling it doesnt. Is there a safe way to turn it on to check that it works. Car is a 99 Civic Si.

It should light up just starting the car.
But if you want to create a cel, you can unplug the intake temp sensor or the primary o2...those seem the quickest to me

When you first get in your car turn the key to the ON position and the CEL should be on for a couple of seconds.

ok thanks for the replies. The CEL does come on when you first turn the key. Right now on my short ram intake it does not have a hole for the Intake Air Temp sensor so it is just in the engine bay and there is no CEL. To turn on the CEL i would have to take out the "tip" on the sensor correct? Thanks again.

no, just disconect the electrical connection to it.
And you really should get that sensor in there

Having the IAT sensor loose in the bay wouldn't necessarily trigger a CEL (and in almost all cases won't), so if that's the reason you're concerned, don't be.

Is the temp sensor really necessary? I'v had mine dangling next to the intake for about a month with no problems

your a/f ratio is probably not optimal since it's just measuring under hood temps instead of the temp in your air intake system

P0505 Idle Control System Malfunction

I erased it but it came back about an hour later. What is wrong? What part should i buy? Check this thread out.
