How do you tell if it is a 2k si engine?

How do you tell if it is a 2k si engine?
I got a deal on a 2 k si swap, but being the insanely paranoid individual I am I would like to know what to look for when I get there. I don't want to be bamboozled into buying an older engine. So:
What should the vin # start with, and was it different between 99 & 00?
Will there be anything on the transmission housing?
Should I just run a carfax on the vin plate on the engine?
What should the ecu say?

stamped on the head near PR3 should be two digits - thats the year
check the VIN , the tenth digit should be....... 2000 = Y
1999 = X
the motors are the same between 99-2000 to the best of my knowledge
that should be enough to tell what year it is

in the vin the 10th character will be a X for 99, and Y for 00,
in the serial # on the block 99 starts w/ a 43..., and 00 strats w/ a 53........
and the tranny both 99 and 00 say s4c and start w/ 10....

Awesome. It is a 3 hour drive to pick this thing up so I don't want to bring it back and find out it has an ls tranny or soemthing. Thanks guys.
