Default How do you remove a wire from its socket?

Like the title says. I need to remove a wire from one of the sockets that plug into the under side of the underhood fuse box. The reason I'm removing the wire is because you have to wiggle that wire or the fuse box itself to get the car to start sometimes. If the car is running and you wiggle that wire or the fuse box the car would die sometimes, wiggle it again and it will start back up. I did notice that the check engine light is on when the car won't start but when you move the fuse box or that wire the light goes out and the car starts up. So today I'm going to see what code it gives me but in the meantime I was wondering how I would remove that wire, if infact that is the problem. TIA

edit: this is on a 92 CX.

no clue exactly how the wiring harness goes into the fuse box but if it goes in on the side, or the bottom you might as well unbolt the box from the frame and rotate it so you have best access to the wiring harness as possible.

You may have to take the covers off the fuse box as well. I know on most plug connectors on late 90's+ hondas that the metal end of the wire sits in the harness plug and is held in place by a plastic lip inside the plug itself. Fuse box is plastic so it would stand to reason the retention process is the same. Just get a THIN piece of metal that is very sturdy and have a lot of light and really good eyes and move the wire around in it's socket in the connector until you think you've found which side the plastic nipple is on.

then slip your piece of metal in between and push the 2 apart while pulling on the wire and it should come out.

Here's a write-up I did on how to swap my gauge cluster from civic to integra without splicing the harnesses. It uses exactly what you are looking for as I wanted it nice and clean and simply removed the wires from the harness and put them in their new homes.

Same principal applies here for this situation hopefully.

just scroll through the write-up to get to the pics of how I take apart the harnesses.

even funnier.

Anyways, I tried to do that and couldn't find the plastic clip that holds it. Theres too much grease in the socket, I can't see anything. I tried using a paper clip to find it but still couldn't. Does anyone know exactly where in the socket it is located? TIA

get rid of the grease....

brake parts cleaner is your friend...apply liberally and from up under it while holding it if you have to so the stuff drips down and out.

dont worry, it's got sooo much ether in it...it'll evaporate off and leave no residue.
