put your car on jack stands(all 4) leave your car running and run your hand from one end of the piping without touching the pipes and locate the leak.

not really... that could be that you have a loose heat shield, or a bolt/screw stuck... in there... or sometimes when your catalyst converter is really jacked up, it will sound like it has really course sand inside... it could be alot of things... a leak will sound like a leak...

hold a lit cigarette, or in some cases a joint up to where you think it is leaking. If the direction of the smoke changes then you have a leak

you probably dont have one at home, but we use a smoke machine with a rubber fitting on the outlet that fits inside the tail pipe.

Sounds like you have a broken weld, just raise it up and inspect it starting from the header to the exhaust tip.

1) Get the car in the air. Or so that you can get under it. SAFELY
2) Cut/find a piece of vaccum hose.
3) Use it stethoscope style. One piece in ear other in hand.
4) locat area where you might think it could be coming from. Such as the areas where the exhasut bolts to gether.
5) just listen for wind/noise.
*EDIT - oh ya, this works even better when the car is running, put that in one of those s1teps.

if the leak was big enough to allow the car to run when the end is plugged up it would be big enough to hear and see the huge gaping hole THINK ABOUT IT
