how do u check for codes?
Today i was checking my ecu for codes with the haynes book which it didnt help a lot. The manual said there is a connector which is located under the dash on the passanger side along the glove compartment, on top of the kick panel. I found a connector a grey one and a brown connector. The manual illustrates the use of a jumper. The manual doesnt say what color of connector or what wiring. Can anybody tell what connector? what color wiring? How many wires? My cel doesnt light on but i know there is something wrong with the car i own a ej if that helps. Is there an easier way to check.

There will be a green rubber boot that has two connectors in them. One of them has three, the other has two.

No you have to jump this connector when adjusting the timing or the ECU will readjust the timing at the same time you are. In other words if you change the position of the dizzy without the connector jumped then the computer will compensate and the timing will not change. There are several threads on the topic.

yep, get a paperclip and "jump" the connection, then count the flashes of the check engine light for the "code"...good luck!

This would be true. Not much people know this. You can also disconnect the battery or pull the ECU (PGM-FI), which is resetting the ECU, change the timing, then put it back in.

Re: how do u check for codes? (SiFan)
i know i did i followed the manual and the connectors that it illustrates are not the same from the ones i see in my car. In the pictures it shows a grey connector with 2 wires. Mine doesnt have it or it could be located in another area. Ive even took the glove box compartment off and looked all around. Have u tried yourself did u find them. Let me know
