and don't wire it to a switch. thats stupid. vtec changes fuel and oil, so if a switch is used, it won't work properly. do it the right way. search the faq's. lots of info on vtec.

It's a 98 hatch with d16/y8 00 engine the engine has a custom intake manifold aem fuel rail,dc headers, vortech fuel reg! He was running a cx ecu before because it came with the car so his buddy had wired the vtec to a switch so he could use it meanwhile! For some dumb reason he disconnected it and now he doesn't know how it goes!! When we installed the p28 we first disconnected the main wire harness to engine then pluged in the p28 waited about a minute or so then pluged main harness back and tried starting it up and nothing! Engine turns but doesn't start! We checked for spark and there's plenty! Fuel reg is set to 42psi.

Is the ECU and automatic?

If so you need to remover the resistor at rp17 and solder a jumper at rp18

the 96-98 cars were obd2a all you should need is the jumper harness and the ecu. if for some reason the ecu won't start the car i would try it with another car first to rule out that it's not an ecu or jumper harness issue. another thing you should do is look to see if the check engine light is coming on when you try to start the car. if so you need to find out what code it's throwing. if you plug the cx ecu back in will it start? also do not wire vtec to a switch, yes it may activate the vtec lobes but it won't switch the fuel and ignition maps....also if the vtec was wired to a switch before there is a good chance that the wiring was cut from the ecu to go to the switch which means that even if you get the p28 to run vtec still won't be activating until the wires are put back to the ecu .
