Default How do I tighten my A/C belt? (Pictures included)

Well, after reading a few threads on here, and being told a few times by friends...I believe I need to tighten my A/C belt. Sometimes when I shift and my A/C is on, it sounds like I have a BOV. Also, when it rains my A/C belt makes a high pitched noise (only when it rains or is damp out). My question is this: how do I tighten my A/C belt? I saw a few bolts around the belt, but am unsure of which one(s) to tighten, or how to go about this process in general. If anyone can let me know how to tighten my A/C belt, it would be greatly appreciated.

adjust that bolt on the tensioner (the small wheel), the thing with the small wheel right below the bottom right hand side of the valve cover. the bolt facing down.

Sorry about the n00b question...better to be safe than sorry though. Also, he stated above that its the bolt on the wheel type thing...but the one I indicated in red isn't on the wheel type thing at all. Someone help this confused boy out!

Thank you! From the problems I listed above...BOV sound and high pitched noise, would you say that it needs to be tightened? I've also heard of a high pitched noise resulting in being too tight. Anyone have any input? Thanks again!

Put your finger on the belt, if you could press it and flip it around half way your fine. More flip more push needs tightening. no flip, hard push to tight.

I use to have that blow off valve sound too when i had AC you have the AC on and rev and it makes the noise? I think you need to replace your needle for the freyon because its leaking. Atleast that was my thought when i had it. never got it fixed.

Thanks man. My belt flips around almost half way. But, I still have that annoying high pitched sound when it rains or is damp out...and I know it is coming from my A/C belt, because when I turn on and off my A/C the pitch differs. Also, when I pop the hood it is quite obvious the sound is coming from that belt. So...if I can flip it almost half way, would you suggest loosening it a bit more? Also, the BOV sound isn't that big of a problem, I just wanted to state that I did hear this a few times...but it doesn't happen everytime I rev my car up.

It wouldnt hurt to loosen it. But once you do its all trial and error. Tighten everything, start car, listen and repeat. But a little wont hurt.... just dont let it flip completely halfway thats to much.

Ok, thanks man. As of now I can almost turn the belt halfway. I'm going to try both tightening and loosening the belt a bit. I might wait until a damp day so I can tell if the high pitched noise goes away.

Wait, before you guys go

How would us guys with Power steering do it? Adjust it I mean. Take out PS pump bolts (2), move it out the way and then adjust? I just looked at it and you can't reach it.

Yes, it can be too tight and you might not even notice. Mine was squealing too, I tightened it up and everything was fine for a few months until the compressor suddenly cracked from the tension. Most costly mistake I ever made.
