How do i know when my shocks are bad?
i have stock springs and shocks stock height, recently i noticed that when i hit a bump on the road my steering wheel jerks to the side of the wheel that got hit by the bump. for example my front left wheel runs over a small pot hole on the road my steering wheels will have jerk a to the left. i wanted to know because i want to lower my car and just get s-tech teins with oem shocks but if the shocks are bad i would have to spend more money and get coilovers.
and another problem i think i have mix matchin shocks and springs when i bought my car the drivers side is lower then the passengers side looks. my guess is that someone had the car lowered and before selling it they took off the setup and put stock back but each side from a different car. would the height difference be solved by replacing all the springs or if the shocks are different year type also make a difference? is there a way i can check and find out forsure?

it is very common for civics at least the 92-95 to sit a little lower on the drivers side. As far as testing for bad shocks the eastest thing to see is a fluid leak. You could try the bounce test (if you bounce the car and it bounces up and down a few times before coming to a stop then the shocks are spent). It is my op that if you are going to replace the springs you might as well relpace the shocks at the same time.

The bouncing test is when Get the car bouncing and when you are at the botoom release your hands and it is supposed to come all the way up and go back to center and not move after that. That is how you tell if your strut/shocks are blown or leaking.
