Re: How do i know if its a EX/SI TRANNY ??
There will be a stamp on the transmission case. B000 is an EX/Si tranny (also HX which really screws things up) chances are if its stamped B000 and the guy says its an EX/Si tranny it is (if its stamped B000 and it has no rivet holes for a VIN tag, or a VIN tag then you can be assured that its an EX/Si tranny) Pic of stamp below.
All other D-series hydro trannys are stamped A000, again pic below
Probably a worn syncro, although he may just not be fully depressing the clutch when trying to shift quick at high RPM and may not even realize it. The good news is the syncros aren't specific to the EX/Si tranny, you can pull them from any hydro D-series tranny if you have a donor tranny for parts and don't mind pulling the tranny you're buying apart. The bad news of course is that it requires pulling the tranny apart and aquiring a donor tranny for syncros. (or buying brand new syncros)
