How do I know if I have a r134a or R12 AC system?
 

I bought an AC kit for my 93 hatchback a very very long time ago and I never asked the person which one it was. Now, I don't remember who sold it to me. I assume its on the compressor, but I somehow misplaced the compressor. This is why I need to know, because I want to start looking around for another compressor.

Correct me if i am wrong but the only thing different in r12 and r134a is the lines and fittings. So any compressor will work you would just need to retrofit kit.

check the two a/c hoses in the front of the car, it will be stamped on the hoses https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emsmile.gif

You can check the fitting on it and it should say it on the car as well....

hi the only thing that is diffrent is the fittings for the gas refill which can be done easily by anyone who deals with ac.

here there is a lable that says on the strut tower area, and a 93 was the last yr of r 12 so most likely u have r 12, also u can check the fittings if they are scwer type its r 12 if quick disconnect its r 134a

yea i got to do all that retrofiting on ym 93 hatch monday and new compressor too fun stuff for me

The only true way of telling is to hook up an identenfier to check out the refigerant in the system.. BUT you can also check the connectors since R134A uses a special adapter, while R12 looks like a threaded valve.
