the stamp on the 5th gen si/ex will say y4g or something. CX will be J8F not sure about the y8 though

The one I have in the garage is an EX and is Y4F. Must be the difference between 5th gear ratio.

If you have the old Si tranny, put it's final drive into the DX. It's not the greatest, but it will accelerate better.

i think the FD is what's shot in my Si tranny Either that or the Differential.
I broke it at the drag strip ricer launching. I was able to drive it, but it would constantly break not out of gear, but out of drive, and would grind like heck. i couldnt go more than 15 mph either......so I called my allstate free towing

If the ring/pinion are good but the diff is broke, you are good to go. You would need to put the Si ring gear on the DX diff anyway.

you cannot visually identify ANY d-series trans by anything but the bearing size
look near the tranny fill plug.........
A000 = small bearing case = CX/DX/HX/VX case, bad!
B000 = large bearing case = EX/Si case, GOOD!!!!
All EX/Si SOHC trannys are big bearing style. only external difference is the casting codes........small bearing vs big bearing
