Default how do i determine what car these calipers came from????

Ok i bought my car (96 civic hatch) with what i was told were 99-00 civic si front brakes. Now i ordered pads for the civic Si caliper and when i recieved them they apparently dont fit. the pads i bought are about 1/2" longer than what is on the car. Instead of trial and error, is their anyway i can determine where the calipers i have came from? A serial #? anything?

thanks,
Pete

see i dont want to have to unnecessarily buy pads just to try them.. there has to be a definitive way to find out the caliper size. thanks anyway

bingo!! easiest way, i had the same problem with my fronts too, i was told that the brake system was a gsr, but the pads would not fit, so i took the old ones to autozone and kept having them pull out pads from all models of civics and intgeras until i found out they were from a 92-95 civic ex with abs.

well i thought that stock EK brakes (other than ex and si) used a smaller rotor and caliper than the ex/si. if this is the case, i know for a fact that the rotors are SI rotors because they fit without a problem. maybe i was sent the wrong pad and they are just giving me the run around. thanks for the info.

out of curiosity does anyone have a pic of a SI caliper?

Pete

I think you are thinking 92-95 Civic. 96-00 EX and SI calipers are definitely different.

ok i just did a little more research on the pads i have.

I ordered my axiss ultimate pads from Importrp.com. the model # for them is 1831 RU. now on importrp's site it says these pads will fit civic EX, 99-00 SI, LX with abs as well as 02-04 Civics, and all 98-02 4cyl Accords.

the pads they sent me were the 1830 RU. on their site they say these pads will only fit:
~~ACCORDS - 90-94 Sedan,93-94 Coupe w/ Akebono Calipers, 95-97 ALL 4 cyl.
~~96-97 2.2CL, 98-00 2.3CL

When i called them and told them about them sending me the wrong pad... the guy on the phone insisted that the 1830 and 1831 pad were actually the same pad and will fit my SI calipers....

Anyone have any insight on this? i should have just posted this from the begining... oh well

going by the info you just posted I'd say there's no way the pads you have will fit....2 different part numbers = 2 different parts....if you try to force it you'll likely f*** something up....don't let some tool sitting at a computer tell ya they'll fit just because he's too damn lazy to fix his mistake.....

I ordered a motormount for my rex from autozone once....after 5 different mounts...all of which they insisted would fit and didn't...I told them to **** up a rope, went to honda, and got it right on the first time.....

Lesson learned the hard way.....Good Luck......

Looks like the Si's are the same as some of the Accords. There should be a part number on the box that starts with 'D' that's the way all PBR/Axiss pads are numbered

Actually what I meant was the 92-95 EX and Si calipers are the same. The 96-00 EX calipers VS the 99-00 Si calipers are differn't. Differnt pads required. It sounds like you got Si pads and have 96-00 DX HX or 96-00 EX calipers.

No...ek ex/si are the same caliper
Pads are the same as well
dx/cx/lx/hx all have a smaller caliper

Reference # for both are 22405 (cant get actual # at this time for proof)

Hmm because I ordered front and rear pads for a 99-00 Si Axxis Ultimate's they Cobalt messed up and set me Front Si pads and Front Ex pads (instead of rear si pads) and they were def. differn't.

so then its safe to assume that if i did have the stock brakes up front there is no way an SI rotor will fit, correct?

so if the rotors i ordered fit on my car and they were the same size as the civic SI rotor... It would also be safe to assume that these pads have to be the wrong size and i really do have a civic SI brake setup.... sorry i keep dragging this on
