The orage wire at the back of the deck, cut it. You will know when you install an after market deck. The dim wire is optional or you can leave it alone.

If using an OEM deck, with this not also disable the illumination, making the whole unit impossible to see at night?

well it has power and that what makes it light up. i think it'll be alright. hmm well hey buddy you dont have to take my advice though, i would try it . if it dosnt work ill wire it up again.
